Great problem solving, shortend gm truck axel behind a cb900 swingarm this is a great build. IIRC the gm gov lock differential won't lock up over 15 or 20 mph as a safety feature in the trucks so that should help prevent unexpected lock up in a corner.

Yep, the 8.5 Eaton locker has always been "huge" and overkill in my mind, but I've grown to subliminally love it after all the lugging and flipping and straining during the mod processes. I've worked muscle groups that were relatively unused for a few years, and breathed many sighs of relief when I wasn't injured in the process.

I've decided the BEST method to find a pair of 16" dia x 6.50 rim width wheels is to pull the short end axle out, install studs, and go junkyard crawling. Then, i'll be sure the wheel matches the flange details-- 1st time!

I'll call a larger recycling business in this neck of the woods and go about the search process with a bit more organization in place this time. Driving around with no real clear plan - one trip is an optimum scenario to find wheels - gets pricy these days. gasoline prices still climbing

I fondly recall when $70 would drive my new 1969 Ford Fairlane, 302 engine w/automatic transmission, to California, and!, a little ways back to central NY state.

Fairlane was a nice ride back in day.
I had at one time a Galaxie 500 390, 4 speed.

Relatively inexpensive (i.e. a new baseline 383 automatic 1968 Roadrunner for 3300 ish $) Hot cars and inexpensive gas made for some great times back then!

Great times indeed. In 69' I was at Woodstock, all three days plus. Grew up in that area.
It was the best of times and the worst of times. Very happy to have grown up in that era.

I've got some aluminum chevy truck rims you could have for the cost of shipping, got both 5 and 6 bolt pattern rims and they would probly need paint as the clear is pealing a little. Fairly common truck rims so you could probly find the same thing at your local pick and pull for less then the cost of shipping that far but let me know if your interested

After I stopped tripping over acquisition angst for a pair of suitable 16" wheels and settled on using a set of 15" wheels and tires off a S-10, for the time being, I started advancing again. Physically AND mentally!

My neighbor Pat, my "next door welder", stopped over this afternoon while I was in the midst of installing the second wheel and was surprised to see where I'd come to with the project. Thankfully, he was very agreeable to my request of seeking refuge for the trike in his garage whilst I cleaned and regained some sense of order in my shed.

Pat came back over with his atv and a tow strap, we hooked em up, pulled it over a low threshold 1/2 course of concrete blocks out of my building, and towed it backwards around my house and into his garage.

After it arrived, safely unscathed into his garage, I asked him to pose behind the trike. He did.

When I showed my wife the same photos before posting them, she said the wheels looked pretty good to her, as well. More important to me, they came off my friend's (sadly passed away last May) S-10 p/u. His wife was pleased that I wanted them for this project last summer. anyhoo.....

These tires are 28" diameter and a very aggressive winter tread pattern. My design calculations are based on a 26" diameter tire. This Blazer ZR2 rear axle used stock 16" wheels with disc brakes, and I would think even though there's an inch difference in wheel diameters, the calipers would still fit within the I.D. of these 15" wheels. The investment in designing an alternate caliper bracket seems highly unlikely.
It's not too difficult to bolt the caliper assy. and bracket back onto the axle tube weldment and verify the wheel/caliper clearance is satisfactory. I think I'll just do that little thing.... after the project resumes residence in my building.

Therefore, if the 15" wheel and brake caliper/ rotor configuration are copacetic, I'll get some smaller diameter tires and go with the flow!

I remember those S-10 stock alloy wheels.
IMHO they would look great.. take them somewhere & have 'em polished.
