Re: Tracker style
thanks to the holidays i finally got time to work on the bike.
after the scavenger pump rotor issues, i put on a set of 2nd hand gl1100 carbs. the seemed out of sync, so bought a carbtune. Still the carbs were running not in sync, so took them apart, cleaned out every jet and put the carbs together. Unfortunately i broke on of the idle adjusters, but descided to put the carbs together anyway (mainly because i had no other adjuster anyways)
at first startup the revs went directly up to 3k rpm, and wouldn't idle at all. first thought was i forgot tho clean out one of the jets.
After fiddling with the throttle cable, the revs went down.
throttle response was terrible, but the bike ran. So grabbed the carbtunes again, and finally after synching she runs great. Superb throttle response, no backfiring, steadly idling.
today i went to the parts shop and found a replacement cable for the backlight and some nice bar-end mirror.

Re: Tracker style
no, i'm not familiar. reason why i put them on was last week my son wanted a ride on the back and i had no passenger pegs.Markn wrote:Tires look awesome on it! (Any chance that you are familiar in the dutch bmx scene, couse of the pegs?)
after some searching i stumbled on his bike and saw the pegs on the front. he doesn't use the front pegs on his bike, so now they serve a purpose.

Re: Tracker style
Brilliant peg maneuver there! that's my kind of style.... great build. are those old tyres or new? i like the duel sport look to them. Although as heavy a bike as these GL1000's are i suppose they will shred thru a set of those pretty quick?
thanks in advance.

Re: Tracker style
Sure looks like a sweet ride. Are you sure you want to wrap those pipes, been told two years maximum from wrapped pipes due to accelerated corrosion?

i read about the corrosion also. perhaps i'll try painting the headers first, then see how i will look and decide if i'm going to wrap it anywaysFred Camper wrote:Sure looks like a sweet ride. Re: Tracker style
The rear fender looks great. Did you cut off a section from the forward end of the original fender or is that off a different bike? It's interesting how much of the bike is still original while changing the look so much. Nice work. I would say the word(s) for the look of the bike should be elegantly ballistic. Good job!

Re: Tracker style
the seat came from a Triumph Speed Triple. I "borrowed" the idea from Octane's Bulldog, and have seen other GL1000's with that seat on this forum.cafewing wrote:I love what you did with it, it looks great.

i did cut off a peace of the original rear fender. i especially wanted to keep the lip of the fender. If you look closely, you can see some hole in the rear end, where the original mudflap was attached
for the rest i try to use as much parts from scrap yards, or parts i had lying around already.

Re: Tracker style
just got back from a test ride. doing 140kmh sitting straight up, with no windscreen is not much fun ... but test passed
