You better be careful.... Your going to have NGW members beating down your door for custom gauge faces.

Re: UPDATE! Worked on Gauge cluster painting the housings.
No problem, I'm going to buy a few extra ones that I'm having printed for spares just in case I mess up, so I may have some left over. I can color those gauges anything I want now that I have the template. Once I figure the price I'm sure I can help out. I have to figure out and see how the back lighting is going to work before I'm comfortable with letting a few sets go.Placerville wrote:You better be careful.... Fantastic work,
I really like your fender, taillight
It looks good with that smaller Harley light, I think.

Can we just send our whole gauge assembly, brackets and all. Yours are coming out very good.

I don't think I'll commit to that just yet! Wait to see if it goes back together okay.Fred Camper wrote:Can we just send our whole gauge assembly, brackets and all. Yours are coming out very good.

Re: UPDATE! Worked on Gauge cluster painting the housings.
Well I scored a spare set of gauges off Ebay for 55.00. I didn't want to ruin my gauge faces because they were so clean. Well the gauges I scored are just as nice and even better because the chrome backs are perfect. Any way I split the gauges and pulled out the dials. I thought I'd paint the inner ring outer surface silver. This gives a nice contrast to the outer black and inner white faces.
I cleaned the gauge face off with some Acetone and that was quick. Also waiting on the printed dials to see how they come out. I still may paint the dials myself.

You're doing excellent work! You're probably aware of this but, I'm going to throw it out in case you aren't. Be sure to paint your gauge faces in an opaque white (or, color of your choice) prior to mounting the overlays. If you don't, the light from the bulbs will bleed through.

Re: UPDATE! Worked on Gauge cluster painting the housings.
I was aware of that thanks. Being that the gauge faces are green the original white letters glowed green. I want the gauges at night to glow a bluish green, would it be too much at night if I didn't? I may test it first.Placerville wrote:You're doing excellent work! You're probably aware of this but, I'm going to throw it out in case you aren't. Re: UPDATE! Worked on Gauge cluster painting the housings.
That sounds nice. I believe these gauge faces were not of a type that allowed light 'through' them, meaning, light from the bulbs would shine through the lenses causing part of the face (e.g., the numbers) to glow. On these lenses, the light is ambient and shines 'around' the edges of the lenses illuminating only the top surface of the gauge. Is that what you're doing with these or, are you changing that method?NunzioGL wrote:I was aware of that thanks. Being that the gauge faces are green the original white letters glowed green. Re: UPDATE! Worked on Gauge cluster painting the housings.
Well there's a little of both going on here. Yes the ambient light surrounds around a gap between the dial faces and the inner housing. The inside is painted a bluish teal color that reflects the light. I also noticed that the white is laid down first and the green printed over the top on the original green plastic dials faces. This allows a slight green hue to the white lettering.
I'm going to have to experiment a little.

Got it. I didn't know that the blue/teal color helped reflect light better than, say, white. That's interesting. Also, you got me with the word 'cereals'......I'm still looking that one up.

Ha! Funny, damn Iphone auto spell. Cereal should have been surround.
The bluish teal is painted around the inner/inner surround, its not that it reflects light better its just the color Honda used to get that green hue on the dial. See picture for stack up.

Yes nuncio,
I've seen that yellow bike in person last summer and met you.
We had our 3 gls, 75' 76' 77. Lined up in CDA. Red,yellow, black.
At one of the Tuesday night gatherings.
Watching transformation and will see you this summer
I'm sure.
