Found some time to make my lockstop

from this

using this left over material - 5mm thick stainless steel

to end up with this

so I could do this

Also cut up my fender. I will reuse some parts. Need to fab up a plate to reconnect the parts but that is not a big deal.

Still need to make a upper mount for the light but it still needs to distill in my head lolol

Also wanted to fill in the gap between the Aprillia tank and the head stock.
After looking at the shape i needed, I bought something at the breaker ( a radiator shroud for a bmw k100 classic )
Original and uncut it is shakehands ugly. After some trial cuts this is the result i ended up with. Its still held together with tape but i works for me action1

Nice vision. This will have a new look.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Hi all,

It has been a while since the last update (again ;) )

I did find time to do stuff (stuff like a new waterpump and belts)... I even got so far that i took the bike out for a test drive last august dancr
It was in a intermediate state.... just for the shake down.
I purposely didnt take any pics because is was fugly/ functional at best

the test drive:
found out the "new to me front discs" are warped,
the carbs need serious TLC,
electrics are wonky,
did I mention it was really ugly,
ground clearance is less than original.
the wider rear rim works :guitar

So after that test drive i started to correct most of the above:
bought another set of discs and fitted them
cleaned carbs (ultrasonic baths after huge amounts of carb cleaner)
synced carbs
fixed electrics

After that I made a second test run.
This one was sooo much better i drove away half a gas tank :)
Ooh and i re installed the DB killers.

Everything i did helped / worked.

Ground clearance is still a issue but nothing "major":
The headers touch ground when bottoming out in fast corners. I'm reducing speed for now.

After the bike was functional, i started working on the looks.

The bullet front pinkers, the v-rod rear end and the front fender is gone.

Main lines are set and i am going for a italian sports tourer look.
The plastics are layed one loosely and deffo need an extra trimming but i am happy action1

i still need to do the right side of the bike, make the new back fit and modify a seat but i almost can see the finished product.

I am slowly starting to think of the colours and graphics.

Looking good, will the new tank be functional or just for appearance?

Hi Easter

The new tank is just a airbox cover just like the original faux tank.

I need to give it a functional fuel cap. Dont want to flip the cover at every tank stop

i will lenghten the filneck of the gl1100 tank with a fuel hose and make a adapter to use that with an aftermarket race fuel cap to use on the Aprilla tank. :-D

I have sourced the hose and have dimensions for the adapter.

- hows matilda coming along?

At first I couldn't imagine how good it was going to look.

and thought it would change the balance and center of gravity.

When you explained the gas tank filler it all came together as

a concept.

Very nice !!

What is the plan for more cornering clearance?
What I say is based on Google and Yrs.of
experience, in the stream of time not even a
blink......So take anything I say as merely inconsequential babble.
