Good job. Sharp looking bike. Can you tell me which gaiters you used and which master cylinder?

First off, great bike.
Two questions. How did you blacken the wheels? And the Renthal handlebar set up... what model is it?

Thanks everyone for the comments!
It's an honor to have the bike of the month, it makes me want to get it out of storage and ride it now!
It got put up on an Instagram account and has almost 4,000 likes!
I'm just glad people like it and appreciate the old beast as much as I do!
The Renthal bars are the model #754 low rise 7/8" and I put Biltwell grips on them. The clutch cable broke a couple days before my wedding, so I changed out the clutch lever while I was at it.
As for the exhaust setup, I was checking out the Biltwell mini mufflers, but the price kept me from pulling the trigger. After some searching, I found these ones made by Emgo. They are pretty cheap ($30 a piece) but to fit them to the header pipe, I needed to also purchase the ring spacer/reducer kit (also made by Emgo) to fill the gap between the header pipe and the muffler and make everything fit tight before clamping it down.
I can't wait for the weather to get better around here so I can get it back on the road again!
Thanks again everyone!

I used Honda style gaiters that I found on Dime City cycles website. I purchased the mini LED gauges from them as well. The master cylinder was from eBay, not sure of a brand name or anything but it is a much better looking flat style modern master cylinder. The stainless brake lines are Galfer, also ordered off eBay.tlbranth wrote:Good job. Sharp looking bike. Can you tell me which gaiters you used and which master cylinder?
I used PlastiDip to spray the wheels. I have used it before on wheels for my Jeep and to black out logos on cars and I have never been let down by it. It's super easy to use and is actually quite durable. The best part is that if you don't like it, you can actually peel it off in one sheet.fotogogo wrote: Two questions. LOVE your bike man! That thing is a beauty! I want to pretty much copy it, but use a 2 piece seat with a quick disconnect rear seat and quick disconnect solo cowl to swap places with it, and planning to retain the single headlight with mine. Already got some basic dirt bike bars on mine, but I still have the ugly stocker master cylinder. But I think yours is a stellar rendition of a cafe'd out GL!

Congrats on BOTM. Well deserved.
Reading back through your thread I noticed something.
You have the slotted front discs. These were originally used on the 82 GL1100, CB900, CBX1000 etc. along with the dual piston caliper sets. Those calipers and brackets mounted the pads further out onto the solid portion of the discs. The earlier calipers which you have bring the pads in closer to the hub.
If you look at the picture with the two headless people, you can see where the pads are rubbing half on the slots and half on the solid.
Not the best picture to show you, but you can see the difference in where the rubbed surface is on mine fitted with the dual piston caliper.
Find yourself a pair of these. You need both calipers and brackets. They bolt straight up to the 78-79 1000 forks and are a great improvement to the braking.
