All in (with tires) I am at $2,125.
I went with new brake lines up front and made a world of difference but was worth the extra $

Nice job on the paint. I hate you.
Because I can't paint.

I’m also converting an 83 Aspy to a Cafe-Cruiser.
Did you remove the steering weight and relocate the electrical box in order to install headlight mounts? Where did you move the electrical to, and how was is to to move?

I removed the weight. All the original wires/connectors are in the headlight bucket. It was a pretty tight fit but is all went in.

Ah ha! Of course, the headlight! Thank you so much, I’ve been toiling with this question since the beginning!

I wanted to go with an 1983 to get to the aluminum wheels instead of buying switching later. I learned a lot on the first one and wound up doing some items twice. I had set a budget of $1500 for this one - if I do tires, I more than likely will go over a little but it is a goal. Will keep track as I go.
As I found it - 1983 Interstate - $500 clean title
Losing some weight and assessing any damage - so far it is only fork tubes that are bent and the instrument cluster is busted up.

Good place to start, looks like a solid bike. Hope you can get a good deal on some forks.
