Well 7 hours and some "slight progress" but not there yet. I got a real good carb sync finally and it tries to return to idle faster than before. Then spent hours chasing RPM response with the idle adjustment screw. If i just ever so slightly twitch the screw it will rev up to 2000. I cant get any control of the RPMs.. either wants to rev or die.
I double checked float hts per the 21MM the service manual states. I got new vacuum lines on. Set the side screws at 2 out. Used my colortunes to check burn color in the cylinders and have nice blue color. Recleaned the tops in the holes the slide pin goes in. All slides freefall fast when i held them up and let go. Made sure theres good slack in all throttle cables and choke cable.
I am running of a gravity bottle and have had the thought that maybe i should run gravity bottle to the fuel pump and see if that changes anything. Also had the thought that the choke plates could not be fully open but dont really know how to check them. Carbs are on the bench right now so if theres a way to check the chokes im all ears. Im getting seriously frustrated with it. I got it sold but i gotts get the carbs working right and the sooner the better.

EDIT: Just got thinking about timing possibly causing the issue. I have the screw in viewing window tool. So tomorrow im gonna get the timing section in the manual and visit that. Do you guys think im on the right track with timing when ive been chasing carbs all along??? And since it been setting 10 years maybe the timing advance governor is sticking???

Sorry, but do not set the screws automatically at 3 turns out. Set them to where you get the highest idle speed. This is a 1000. The mixture screws are easy to get to.

Chuck,,, what kind of gauges are you using to do the carb sync ? Also have you looked at the ignition advancer mechanism by chance ? A sticking or stuck advancer would do what you’re seeing, just a thought.

On the Carbtune’s ,,,I haven’t had good luck with them ! You might try attaching them to a common vacuum source to see if they’re all the same,, mine were way off,, I could never get the carbsync right because of that,, I went back to simple gauges because of that..

Advancer was not stuck but as i cranked it i saw the right set of point open like 1/16 inch. Left set was at .014. Turned crank with a wrench and reset right points to .014 also. I brought carbs home for berrymans dip number 2, cant hurt anything.
Also does anyone know the sizes of the orings on the two jets that go into the curved metal holder bracket? I dont want to shell out big money just for 8 tiny orings.
Has anyone used those metric oring kits from harbor freight for these orings? I was thinking give that a try. Im betting the way out of spec points is the elusive dragon ive been chasing for a week now.
Not many cloices on ebay. Any links to cheap oring kits would be appreciate

The dragon has been slain!!!!
Did the static timing by following the service manual, resynced carbs and colortuned each cylinder. Starts instantly, got idle screw response as it should be, solid steady idle, idle falls back as it should and no more hanging idle or racing RPMs. Next is ill go to the shop in the morning and see how it starts from stone cold.
A big thanks to everyones guidance and patience, Was a great learning experience for sure.

Great news Chuck ! Nothing better than a proper running gl ! Keep an eye on your oil-in the window to make sure it doesn’t milkshake up again and just enjoy it ! At this point I’d recommend Rats normal philosophy of fill the gas tank,,, run and refill, repeat frequently!

Couple of other thoughts,, personally I have grown to just use the Old school” vacuum gauges as the new high tech stuff tends to be problematic and cover problems over,,, just buy an old school set,,, my .02….

On the jet o’rings, I would use only Viton rubber o’rings since they resist the alcohol & other additives in today’s gas,, you’ll just be better off. Randakks may have them or just take a set of jets to your local hydraulic hose supplier, generally they carry o’rings as well. Just ask that they are made from Viton. Randakks lists the primary main #62 as a 3.2x1.1mm o’ring and the secondary main #120 o’ring as a 4.2x1.1mm. If I get up to my shop today I’ll try to take a look in the manual,, it should list them to insure those numbers are correct.

Oh and one last thing ,, CHANGE YOUR BELTS ! If you haven’t already…

Started good from dead cold with half choke. Let it warm up and rolled it off the lift. Doesnt have a plate so all i could do was ride it around the storage complex i have my shop set up at. Pulled solid from start and was able to get it to third gear and it pulled great. Im tempted to take the current plate off the KZ and take it out but sure as the sun comes up a cop will stop me so ill not take the chance.
