Rode the 78 and worked on the 77 some more. Well ran it a bunch more just trying to verify everything is OK. Getting some smoke out of the RH exhaust and the # 1 plug is a lot darker than the rest. My Compression tester is acting up so I think I will have to save a few Pennies and buy a new one of those before I make any final decisions.

Finished cleaning up the Black 84 and warmed up the red 84 and the 82. Now I need to bring in the red one and change the timing belts and service everything so I can ride it to Wisconsin on the 27th. Man I love this black beauty. It's like a new machine.

Had a K1 parts bike pop up here in town. Saw pictures and it looks pretty rough. Shot a message to the owner with a low ball offer but have not heard back from him. May have ran him off. Don't need another project and my parts tubs are full. Probably need to sell some parts.

Finished up with a stator change on the 1200. Fired it up and now I am seeing 14 volts. Now to bleed that dang clutch!

Washed the bugs off the bike after a 200 mile run to town and back. Spring is big bug season here in Montana, hard to see through windshield by end of trip. Best use of a pressure washer, removes bugs without a scratch to the shield! Glad its in front of me, top of helmet just as bad.

Bleeding the clutch went easier than I expected. Got the naked one back together and took it to the car wash to get a winters worth of dust and dirt off of it. It's nice riding with the wind in my face once more.

dunno if some rear end clicking sounds is normal quickly moving the rear wheel back and forth a few inches, seems to be more pronounced at some locations, gotta narrow down the source of the noise, whether pumpkin or u-joint area, maybe wheel bearing

may be something more not uncommon with mileage? gonna check what 82a is like,

also feels like might be some very mild brake drag going going on, gonna see if the disc heats up at all on the next scoot with no use, then after fiddling with some varying applications, what happens
swingarm wheel combo are def tight dancr ..far as movement goes

You definitely want to slide the boot off and inspect the U-Joint and the splines on the back end.

think there may be any connection with what seems to be very evident and easy onset of juddering with any load or pulling from below 3,000 RPMs?

seemS to go away completely past 3,000 & up & don't recall at this point but don't think 82a was the same, or at least not nearly as touchy

A couple weeks ago DocRoot helped me install new timing belts and adjusters, and today I got around to timing the ignition. To my surprise, the previous owner installed a Dyna-S Electronic ignition! Adjusting the timing was easy once I figured out why my ignition looked so different from the manual... She runs good, I only have a couple more things to do before I get this '79 back on the road.

Like whisker said. Check the U joint and pull the rear end and check it. (Sorry I don't have a link)

I took the old fork seals out of my new-to-me sliders to get them ready for the new seals.

My old seals were leaking a lot after I came down hard from an unintentional wheelie (sprayed oil everywhere!).
When I went to replace the seals, I found out that some PO had removed them by hammering a screwdriver along the outside of the seal, and prying them out, leaving bad gouges. I couldn't get the seals to stop leaking even with 50w oil, so it was time to get new sliders.

Then the bike broke down and sat for a few years.

The new sliders look much better with only a little scratching where the seals go. Light Dremeling and some sandpaper cleaned it up.

I think that I read somewhere that the new seals do away with the metal rings under the seal.

Is this correct?

AFAIK, the ring is still needed. Honda changed the design, so if you ordered a replacement, it may look different, but it is still required.
