Great. The new seal is larger/deeper than the original, but everything should still fit properly.Track T 2411 wrote:AFAIK, the ring is still needed. Honda changed the design, so if you ordered a replacement, it may look different, but it is still required.Dirt Road Cowboy wrote:
I think that I read somewhere that the new seals do away with the metal rings under the seal.
Is this correct?
Thanks for the info!

When I made the decision you would not believe but I thought "You know Gord would run at least a couple thou more on this"

I dislike the "Adventure" and expense of dealing with replacing rubber on the road and would much rather do it at home

Re: What Did You Do To Your Wing Today?
Took the carbs off the 77 I picked up a couple of weeks ago and put them back on my 75 where they belong. Then of course I had to take it out to stretch it's legs and make sure it was running good
Muggy but another very nice day all in all.
Getting ready to order a leakdown tester to check out the 77 a bit more before I pickle the engine.

Re: What Did You Do To Your Wing Today?
I'm getting my 83 ready for a road trip in a month and knowing that good electrical connections are key to the longevity of the stator I stripped all the body work off my Interstate and cleaned every electrical connection I could get my hands on with vinegar and then water/baking soda to neutralize it. It's my own opinion but I'm not a fan of dielectric grease so in order to help keep them clean I sprayed all the connections with "control/contact cleaner and lubricant" from radio shack. Maybe it's just my imagination but once all was back together and running the bike actually seemed to idle smoother than it did before I cleaned all the connections.
What had me pulling my hair out was finding replacement hand grips for it last night. I could've easily got replacements for the ones that are on it now but I don't like them and wanted something different. The ones on it now are aftermarket foam/chrome grips that are too big a dia for my small hands and makes my hands cramp, the problem I ran into though was finding a suitable grip that was the length I needed because it turns out my 83 takes a grip that's 5 3/4 inches long. You wouldn't think that would be an issue but what I found frustrating was that almost every site I checked out wouldn't give me detailed dimensions of the grip other than they were for 7/8" bars and I wasn't going to purchase a set of grips only to find out they were too short. I finally did find a set but geez what a headache it was finding them.

I would have thought that nearly all grips would be about the same length. Too short yea a problem too long not so much of a problem.

Re: What Did You Do To Your Wing Today?
You would think they would but no. The ones on my 750 are 5 1/4 long which seems to be a common length but when I tried to fit them on the GL just to see how they felt on it that's when I realized I had to be careful ordering grips and many sites would claim that a grip would fit my GL but some researching found that most those grips were actually too short.ianstaley wrote:I would have thought that nearly all grips would be about the same length. Re: What Did You Do To Your Wing Today?
Woke up with a whining back this AM so my plans for valve adjustment and timing on the '77 are shelved (no lift). Fortunately, there's a 755 on the bench waiting it's turn. I took the top apart without any struggles, no stripped bolts, no stuck slides, jets in the right places, but the kidney gaskets were just about falling apart. Now it's up-side-down with the bowls off and everything pb blastered, and I'm on my way to the outdoor store for Mother's day hanging baskets of flowers.
