I did check out that tool and have a piece of bar stock to make it... Thanks!Robin: the seals on a 1000 won't come off when you remove the lowers from the fork tubes. You will have to pry the seals out. Check out Randakks tool for that

Re: What Did You Do To Your Wing Today?
Good Evening Folks,
I rode my Wing to work yesterday, the first day of the summer commute. It was lovely, my new position at Bombardier's Regional Jet plant is 30 miles north of Montreal beside the now defunct Mirabel airport. I work noon to 10PM 4 days a week. This puts me on the road in the dark through some prime deer and moose country. I'll be keeping my eyes open wide on the way home.
With rain in the forecast for today and tomorrow I am in the mighty Grand Marquez, but Friday looks very Wingable from here.

Re: What Did You Do To Your Wing Today?
I hear that. I work 4 10hour days too. 3pm to 1:30am Sunday through Wednesday. I keep it under the speed limit going home in the early hours for the same reason. Vermont is home to a lot of different things that can send you for a ride if you're not alert and paying attention.
Yesterday was my first ride of the season (to work) as well. 26 mile round trip, varies from 25mph to 50mph through the countryside. Makes for a great ride to work, not so much comming home.
Ride safe!

Took my 75 for a fifty mile ride, then thought I'd dump the oil. It's been just under 1000
miles. I got 2.75 quarts out without filter change. I have been changing the filter every other
oil change. It's so easy to get to our oil plugs, just love that. Picked up some Mobil delvac
15/40 diesel oil for $13.99 a gal at oreilies.

Re: What Did You Do To Your Wing Today?
I replaced the throttle cables on my 83 yesterday, all the directions I read about it said to at least unbolt the carbs and move them to the left a bit but I figured I'd be a wise guy and replace them with the carbs mounted instead. I've got small agile hands so I was able to do it but being there's not much room to play with it took me a while specifically getting the old cables off the carb linkage and the new ones on. This is my first GL and I'm finding out Honda didn't make it easy to get to certain areas of the bike.

These bikes were built by people with "small agile hands", I think.JSBail wrote:I replaced the throttle cables on my 83 yesterday, all the directions I read about it said to at least unbolt the carbs and move them to the left a bit but I figured I'd be a wise guy and replace them with the carbs mounted instead. I've got "big beafy hands" (what's the antithesis of "agile"... not clumsy, just arthritic and, well, clumsy) and don't kneel all that well...
but 8 acorn bolts and one hose clamp and it's all right there in front of me. I've got a 12v Rigid portable electric drill with a variable clutch, a square drive, 6" extension, and 10mm socket that makes it a 3 minute job to get at the throttle ends.

Appreciate good people: they are hard to come by.

Back in my day, every kid wanted to either be a harpooner, or use air tools on their vehicles! I just finally got to the point of being able to have air tools, and now, y'all are using your electrical devices for everything.

Re: What Did You Do To Your Wing Today?
Rode to work, then watched out the window as it poured rain horizontally for half the morning..... Rode home with a major thunderstorm chasing me, managed to get it into the garage before it progressed much past light (but large) raindrops.
So far, though, I've put just over 1,000 miles on her since I started riding in mid-March and that's primarily commuting miles with a couple of 100-mile joyrides thrown in.
Gotta love it....

Nothing to do with hand size, the engine and all cables are fitted before engine goes in. Smart cookies these JapaneseDocRoot wrote:I've got "big beafy hands" (what's the antithesis of "agile"... not clumsy, just arthritic and, well, clumsy) and don't kneel all that well...but 8 acorn bolts and one hose clamp and it's all right there in front of me. Re: What Did You Do To Your Wing Today?
No moose in South Texas but I did get a real wake-up this morning riding Dragon Wing to work. On a rural country road about half way in to work when I met a large Utility service truck--the kind with cranes and bumpers that would fit a locomotive--when he dropped a wheel off the right shoulder, then over corrected and sent the front of the truck right at me. Neither of us were going all that fast, probably about 50mph each, but there was no where to go and that truck looked more like a large building coming at me. Fortunately he got it under control and we both motored on to our days work.

Re: What Did You Do To Your Wing Today?
Been having a bit of an issue with a hanging CV slide so I pulled the Alternator and the Carbs this morning and did a top end service. Took it out for a test run and it is running like crud. I only found one that was not smooth and it was fine after a good scrubbing so I don't know what I did wrong just yet. Gonna have take it apart again, just taking a break from the heat. Over 90 in the shop already. Normally Carbs out and back in is only about an hour but the Alternator and the brackets easily double the job.

You need to get Airco in your shop I do, but mine is a portable one,
but I don't think it will handle the heat you get there...
