Another SA member
And close enough to ride
Welcome Mark !
Thanks for the kind comments, I'll reply to your PM as well.
Just got back from Holiday, so haven't been on NGWC at all since before Xmas, but I have managed to do 750km !
I am having the best time riding this machine around, Good thing I have a full face helmet 'cos I'm permanently grinning like an idiot
Went on a few really fun rides in the countryside around Christmas. Even had my first roadside breakdown
Stopped on the side of the road to have a look at a very sad GL1000 for sale, kill switch broke, I'm dead in the water. Had a makeshift tool pouch luckily, opened and dismantled the switch, checked the colour of the wires, used a piece of wire lying in the dirt next to the road and used it to bridge the correct wires in the shelter, and the bike started right up and got me home 20km later no problems
Patted myself on the back I must admit

I bypass the kill switch on all my bikes. In my opinion they cause more problems then they solve

Re: CAFE MAXIMUS
Yup, they are finicky....
I use mine to crank the motor till the oil pressure light goes out, then I switch it on and start the engine.
Don't know if there is actually any merit to it, I just like the idea of having oil pressure before the engine fires, seeing as most of an engine's wear occurs at start-up.

Re: CAFE MAXIMUS
That is one huge advantage of working on your own bike, you know what is wrong and can make the necessary roadside repair rather than leave it and have to send it to the shop. Glad it was something simple.

Re: CAFE MAXIMUS
... so true, but my parking spot is in an overcrwoded barn in the runway which is at about 1/6 pitch, and the kill switch lets me have both feet on the ground, the clutch lever squeezed, and the brake on all at once, and then kill the engine. Much more secure than any other configuration other than letting the clutch out and stalling the engine, which seems just wrong.I bypass the kill switch on all my bikes. In my opinion they cause more problems then they solve
Appreciate good people: they are hard to come by.

Re: CAFE MAXIMUS
Did my first oil & coolant change - happily they both looked great, nothing funny in either, phew!!
Now that I've done 1000km and the break-in process is complete, I've been opening the taps a bit....man, this thing is FAST
I'm sure any seasoned superbike rider will find it a bit slow, but to an inexperienced biker like myself there is waaaay more power than I can use here

Re: CAFE MAXIMUS
People either never knew, or forgot, that the 1975 Goldwing was the second quickest production bike behind the 900 Kaw. That is the primary reason why many of us insist that new owners pay much attention to the brakes even though it's expensive to rebuild the whole mess.

In my opinion, your build ranks among the best this sight has to offer.
It is good to read that you are enjoying the bike.
