Thanks for asking!
Truth is, at sight not much, in heart and mind more.....it' a journey.
I has been cleaning powder coating dust on front fork bearing at last weekend.
Well I have had a computer crash to restore that stolen valuable time and a number of other thing happend in life.
Looked for back wheel swing arm bearings and hope to get them from UK later during spring so I can get her back on wheels. Spring will be tough but try to get better speed in May or so.
Here in Scandinavia, Sweden we have close to twenty minus degrees celsius tonight so it's nice to spend some time at a working computer updating you instead.

Re: BugHunter Takes on the GL1000 -78
Great time of the year to get us updated. We have a post called the Hot Stove League where we make promises on the winter wrenching. I have polished my valve covers and now want to clear coat them as with minor pitting I think clear coating is the best option for appearance. Then I need to get moving on exhaust replacement.

Re: BugHunter Takes on the GL1000 -78
Thanks'
To be able to get her back on the wheels I ordered Swing Arm Bearing Kit2 Item # KZ kit2 since my swinging arm pivot collars are in good condition I used Kit 2. The old ones got damaged when I removed them.
Check it out if you like:
http://www.wingovations.com
Excellent service with allot of good help. Then my old exhaust is shipped for recycle so a new was needed. It came just a few days ago and I took a photo outside in the sun and most of all snow has gone.
So here is the new one still in plastic but I think you can see it. One question I asked me is what utilization you actually get on the pipe between the right and left exhaust pipes.
Any one has answer to that?
I have chrome issues next on list to investigate and ask my self if it is better to get replacement spareparts than to re chrome it.
Is there allot of -78 chrome parts around in good shape to buy?
Thanks for now and I hope I will keep a better update frequency on the forum for season coming.

Re: BugHunter Takes on the GL1000 -78
The pipe between the two sides in the exhaust system is called a balance pipe. It allows the exhaust pulses to flow from each cylinder out through both mufflers. By doing that, it reduces back pressure and lowers the volume (noise level) of the exhaust.

Re: BugHunter Takes on the GL1000 -78
I know on a car the balance pipe also creates a scavanging effect with the pulses. When one side pulses it creates a suction through the pipe, pulling gasses from the non pulsing one, which helps pull the unspent gases out of those cylinders. Thus making the incoming gas and air in the cyl more dense (less spent gas air more pure incomming) which = more power. Wow I feel like my science teacher or something lol.
Just a lerker nothing to see here, move along...

Nice updates on the bike. John at "Wingovations" is a very active member here, Old Fogey, as is his partner Cyborg! Nice stuff.

Hey, we need to see those pipes installed. Photo required! They are nice and all in the plastic wrap, but...

Thanks’ for the info on the balance pipe. Really educational!
All pieces went down in the shipping box until it will be mounted on the bike, probably as one of the last things before hitting the road.
