Thank You!! Here's a little gas tank work I did;
I traced the rear down tubes on to the old tank and cut....
Image
While open I glass beaded the inside. -Observation-the best way to clean a rusty tank is to cut it in half :-D
Image
From here I wrapped the opening with sheet stock and began spot welding. I'm MIG welding this whole project so I use this method to keep from distorting the thin sheet metal.
'Death by a thousand spot welds' (the small tube pass thru is for reserve)
Image
This is how it will sit in the frame. Since this photo I added a 1/4'' return at the filler and a 3/8'' barbed outlet. This tank will be used in tandem with a spun aluminum (oil tank replica) tank. The stock petcock will work as normal. I finished the inside with POR-15. Capacity will be approx. 3 gal.
Image
on to the seat and rear fender......

I was thinking about doing a transparent view tube. I'm going pretty lean on the dashboard, so hadn't planned on a gauge. Not too worried with reserve. I'm always open to ideas.

no ideas. was looking for some myself :lol: :lol: on my tank i was able to use a float type sending unit. but only in the lower unit. half of the fuel is in the up-per unit. so i go forever on full, and then to empty in a short time. i still use the miles, odometer, but i do like a gauge

that is awsome, when you get done you might find a bunch of goldwing frames on your doorstep waiting for a rear suspension and rake job! great job!

Looks awesome! Three gallons seems to be a stretch. Sure enjoying your pics of this build.

Yeah, but you don't know how big of a fuel line I'm using. :twisted: I'll measure it out and let you know.

You could use an 18" diameter fuel line, that would increase the capacity lolol

The fuel gauge on a stock wing is for entertainment purposes only, so what is the big deal without a gauge. As long as you have a reserve and watch the miles, all should be swell. This is once great build to follow.

First time I have visited this thread. I thought you were going to make a long distance tourer out of the '83' instead of this Radical Custom. WOW

the fuel gauge on my 78 works perfect. and with my memmory what it is, the gauge is more then for entertainent. some of us travel in places that don't have a gas station every mile or so
