The post repair kit gets great reviews, so I would not fear that.

Disaster (minor) this am, i was using the Randakk kit to repair the broken post. The 1/16 bit broke of in the aluminum body at the base of the post. Not amout of filing or drilling could get the bit out. It caused the larger hole to drift off center. The final hole was, as you can see a disaster. So I need a new carb body. I will be posting in the wanted section and looking on ebay.

Oh my, sad day Bitsam. Could it be exasperated by a dull bit? Too fast a feed? That is a very tiny bit and the feed force must have to be very small to not cause breakage. Learning from you here.

Sorry to hear that. They can be hard to come by - you would need the same set carb, and the same number carb.

I have a spare carb - and a good 76 carb set I just took off a good running bike if you are interested. I am right here in Madison too.

-edit-

Looks like my single carb is not a #3 as you would need

Things are moving along well. I just finished installing Dynamic S ignition. I am close to re-start but I am nervous and have a question

I replaced the timing belts during this restoration. I removed the pulleys for epainting the engine. I carefully followed all directions in re- installing belts and think everything is fine but is there a check I could make before cranking it up to make sure I don't damage anything if I am off by a tooth?

Would the statitc timing process reveal any problems? Or adjusting the valves? I also rebuilt carbs and will need to balance them once the engine starts and after timing is dead on per Randakk

Any advice appreciated

Turn the engine over by hand 4 or 5 times to check the timing belts/valve clearance. If you don't hit any blockage then they're probably correct.

Slowly. You can bend a valve easily.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

I found a single carb and pulled the set apart and hopefully I will be good to go. I am days from firing her up. Fingers crossed

I thought I had a good system. When I dismantled the bike I put everything in a plastic bag with a label. Now that I am putting it together I can't find everything! Now I am missing the bolt that holds the kick stand. I suspect it is an unusual bolt but the picture in the micro film parts list does not provide enough detail.
Does anyone have an extra they would like to part with?

I lost the positive battery cable only to find it later, in the wrong baggie! So I still have some hope of finding the bolt

I am close to starting her up. The headers are getting ceramic powder coated now and when I get them back I will do static timing and try to start her up. It has been six months since I replaced the timing belts and I am anxious about it. I followed directions but I did completely remove the adjustersand both pulleys I did slowly crank the bike by hand with the kick starter and nothing bad happened with valves etc so I think I am good there??

Carbs rebuilt, new Dyna ignition, removed and re-installed wiring harness and new right handlebar control. Lots of possible things to go wrong!
