I love the look of the cropped fender. I am curious if it will be susceptible to corrosion, have an exposed "raw" metal edge. As you are aware, the stock fenders have a rolled edge, so that any exposed edge is hidden underneath. I wonder if it would be possible to duplicate this rolled edge on a trimmed fender.

Seems like the edge could be primed and painted, with maybe a 1/16 overlap on the chrome surface. I do not think anyone could see a thin line of silver down there.

Walt...Thanks for getting me to this thread....some how I missed it...I was gone most of the summer and only glanced at NGW when time allowed.
Your bike I is what I had in my "vision" of what I wanted my 76 to look like....and after seeing what yours started as, mine is cherry...lol
I dont have the budget for it to be that nice but it's what my goal is....maybe 2 years from now. I'll have the '80 to keep me some what amused ,maybe the 750 I just got could go that way too.....

First of all great job, I always admire people who know more than me, any subject.
Next whats that white stuff on the ground, dandruff, haven't seen that stuff since we left NY 20 years ago( it looks cold)
Lastly, thanks for sharing your rebuild here, you make me a bit more eager to keep my bike.
I restored a cb750( 75) but the requirements were mostly cleaning and a bit of wiring.
Anyway, thanks for the help/entertainment, I envy your ability, I have worked on Tr4, Tr6, Tvr, cars, and around 5 BSA bikes( in the 60-70s) but never to the extent you have.
Thanks also to you Cob...it was HOTT's two beautiful wings that got me motivated to get rolling on my 76 restoration...so I'm glad to hear my build might help to get yours going as well
These old wings are special machines and need us to keep them alive and on the road for the next generation that comes along after us!
Motowalt: where did you get those pipes?
If I decide to build a cafe, i would like upswept pipes like yours.
I already decided on the gunfighter seat, smaller blinkers,new front( smaller fender),
and a special paint job.Redo the valve covers and belt cover probably black( they are pitted now)
I purchased a CB750 in January and restored it planning on a cafe racer, but at the last minute went with stock.
The Wing will be different than stock, if I keep it and that depends on the mechanics!
If my wife can get pictures on here I'll post the two bikes, this GL is actually pretty clean ( only rust is on the front blinker assemblies( the extensions), slight on the valve covers and the headlight holders( on the insides).

your bike turned out great! I hope mine ends up half that good. I like the way you used a lot of the original parts, but made them better. It's fun having something a little different. Anyone can go to the store and buy one, but customs are cool. Way to go

The Gl1000 motor is very forgiving with various pipes and probably even with no pipes and headers only, but it may be a bit loud for the neighbors...
Yes, I had the original headers ceramic coated...the finish is a bit dimpled and not totally smooth, (not sure the headers were that smooth even when it was new...) but it looks cool to me...I found the mufflers on the web...
