Yes mat007 i did look at that option of mounting fan on the out side but naaah.... I was lucky enough to have a spare complete fan and radiator and chose that option as per pic.....

I was able to get it started very easily but it was running very rough and clattery?.... well it a Wing isnt it??? I did notice all the lock nuts on the adjustment nuts were loose from initial (pre dismantle) sync so they could be anywhere ATM and thats ok because it sounded and responded fine with first sync... And the "black Wire" conundrum works.. 14+ volts at lower revs, but couldnt run too long with fuel spitting out.... I will elaborate later once tuning is sorted.....

Problem for me, is i choose the cheapskate path with the fuel pump and made the best out of what parts i had.... And yes it spits fuel out of the breather hole............ New one is on order....

I have added many necessary "bits" which may not be obvious but heres a pic anyway...

Image

Whilst waiting (Grrrrrrr) for the fuel pump i started on bodywork (and thinking paint schemes)... I will be putting 3 marine type switches and a temp gauge in the "fliptop" and have modified to suit.....

I "believe" i have finished the wiring up to temp gauge and various switches for lights..

I'm still waiting for a fuel pump and have given all panels an initial dose of paint stripper..... Walking around and around and around the bike whilst procrastinating and trying to delay paint scheme decisions it time to start!!!

I have found enough paint, undercoat, black, silver base and clear coat in the cupboard.... All 2pack enamel.....

Image

I haven't yet sourced the stickers as discussed in http://www.ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 7&start=30 but with the weekend soon and lots of work on the panels, the stickers will be a Monday priority...

The "sticker" i will be after will be as simple as below without the writing............ It must be an Aussie thing... Straight forward, to the point, no BS......... If anything i would put NGW.com under it but that would eventually become a problem with the management!....

Good start with prepping panels today.... Filled up the extra holes in the rear gaurd with weld metal, used a bit of filler around the/my temp gauge mod... Shelter side panel are back to basic, with maybe 7 coats of paint removed (wow).. This set of fuel tank side covers are "plastic-ish?" material, not like wing #1 (f/glass?) though only 4 months different in age... (are they original ??? :IDTS: :IDTS: who knows)...

Whilst preparing panel for painting i recalled a recent post about filling holes in "plastic".. So here is what i do with a NO Fail on hard thick plastic panels.....

Clean and prepare by "countersinking" the holes (both sides) with a hand held drill bit....

Image

Fill the hole from both sides with your favourite bondo/filler..

Image

Sand it down when set (20mins) and leave the thinnest layer of bondo that you can.... THere will be 6-8 paint, primer applications to follow (0.020-0.050 thick)............ One thing i have learnt with panel work is "if you can feel it with eyes closed, you will see it when painted"

Image

With the countersunk holes filled with bondo, try to imagine a set off barbells being pulled through the small hole.... !! Just wont happen....

I have primed inside and out with a single pak "Etch Primer" paint.... I gave it 2 coats-ish... Im not real sure whether this is necessary on plastic panels but i always use it on bare metal... The gun was full and it is worth the extra effort..
Its strange how can see any blemishes after a coat of paint..... tomorrow the panels will get 2 coats of 2pak "primer filler" in the morning and 1+ again in the afternoon, providing the sun will be out @ low 20c degrees???? hopefully..

Image

I have ordered my boxer symbol stickers and Honda sticker emblems for the false tank panel... Both from two different suppliers.. I requested "metalic Silver" from both supplier BUUUUT will they be the same colour :-? :-? ???... Their colour will influence what shade of silver i paint the pinstripping... Must be patient GRRRRRR :IDTS: :IDTS: for the stickers to arrive....

And the photo-bomber is "George" my BFF and soulmate...... And yes we can smell the same occasionally.............

Hello,

great work... I like the way you rebuild your Wing. Today I ordered a speedo to put it in the same way you build in your temp gauge.

greetings

Once the etch primer was cured (24hrs) i sprayed all panels inside and out with 2 Pak primer filler to fill, highlight and provide a base to work from... I applied a "shadow coat" and blocked it off using 240 grit W/Dry

Image

When complete and blemishes were eliminate or worked on and removed it was time for a "proper" coat of primer, meaning, no runs, bugs and air borne thingys and thankfully had a warm sunny day :) to help with the 2 pak process..

Image

Image

Next step is another shadow coat (outside) which will be removed with 800 grit W/Dry later.... prior to outside completion paint i will paint the insides of everything with black n clear making sure the "edges" have plenty of paint, even with excess to outer which is cleaned up when removing shadow coat.....

Well i got pretty excited today when my boxer stickers arrived and got a copy of my favourite magazine... You can see how big they are (150mm wide) and are intended for the side covers.... They are a real silver metalic... eg more silver than grey action1 action1 action1

Image

I might even put a pair on #1 wing...

Image

Still waiting for tank emblem sticker !!!

Edit... And while chewing the fat with a mate picking on #1 wing's plainness, i thought a "boxer" emblem on the rocker covers but laser cut from alloy/stainless fixed to a backing plate and fitted to rocker covers..... Yes ive seen new repo honda badges for r/covers@$35ea but......... everybody's got them!!!
