And while it was away i had time to build a wooden build table:
Its hard to see in the pictures but the colours i chose unfortunately had a bit of grey to them in sunlight.
There was also a problem with some flaking on the one front tube. We discussed and concluded the chemical stripping they did must have run down the tube from the joint above it during coating causing the issue.
It ended up being a blessing in disguise. They redid everything and this time we went with jet gloss black on the frame. Satin black on the wheels, and ferrograin on the tank, brakes and tripple tree.
This time round everything came out perfect. Very happy with the outcome.
That’s a neat picture with the bike and the wheels on the table .... a great graphic design !

Oil orifice. O-rings still available from Honda, not sure if the orifice is. Someone here will have one if you post in “Wanted” section.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Even if you have a factory manual, you need a parts list too. This dealer has the best fisc system and also has the biggest inventory of New Old Stock Wing parts in the world. They will ship anywhere; not the cheapest but hey, if they have a part and no-one else does, what you going to do? https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-gl1000-goldwing_model245/
Pretty sure I have an oil orifice you can have but I'm away from the shop until next Saturday
Make sure you check out the Shop Talk pages in the above menu.

Thanks guys, will check it out. And thanks for the offer. I’ll come back to you if i dont come right. I’m wondering if i can pull the one oil orifice i have from the block and have a machine shop turn me one on a lathe, then just get some o-rings for it... may be quicker than international shipping.
HOTT, the workbench is a great addition. I love the under-shelf storage it gives. And all in it cost about $100 or so incl 4x heavy duty locking caster wheels. I will add more support beams and 2 more swivel casters in the middle before I start building the bike.
Another member on FB saw the pic of the frame and said I'm lookin at around 10-15k US$ before the bike rolls down the road. I certainly hope it never gets close to that, and I have been logging the major expenses on the build so far. But I think it will be cool to add a post here while the build is still in it's early stages - that I use to continuously edit/update the cost of the build. May be of interest later on, or to another member venturing into an extensive revamp like this....

Most of it is converted to US $ from ZAR, which is my home currency in South Africa. And a lot of parts are obviously imported from the USA. Our currency is very volatile however. Currently about 1$/14ZAR. I may change this over time.
Trying to keep costs down where possible, so i went to a local breaker yard in search of some rear shock options.
I lucked out and came accross these Koni’s. They are the perfect length and have the clevis bottom to fit the gl1000. They need a rebuild and paint but heck, only cost me $30
Anyone have a clue as to what bike they come from originally?
Am i the only one who gets excited when i find even small parts for my build? The gates idler pulleys aren’t available locally but i found these at a korean parts store.
Amazing work and great looking original! I bought the Randakks carb video and explains everything you need to know about these carbs, you should look into it just for learning. I hope the EFI project goes smoothly.
Thanks for the pics.

Seems decent quality.
You aren't the only one who gets excited when you find small parts - that's a good find GT-Ron!
Looking forward to seeing these mounted, any thoughts after, and possibly a long-term review.
They do look excellent.
