Turns out that headlight bucket is not going to work. I bought it from another member here with the statement that it was for an 1100. I bought it some time age when I first started this project and counted myself lucky that I overcame what was potentially a problem.

When, months later, I mount the bucket between the ears I find to my consternation that the thing is a 6 inch bucket and light instead of the 7 inch stock bucket found on the standard. Also, there is little room in the rear of the bucket for the wiring that it needs to contain. No matter how I try I cannot get the headlight in that bucket with all of those harness connections in there as well. I also removed them and left just one or two in there with the headlamp and it would fit even then.

Well, long story short I scored a stock 1100 bucket on EBay, I haven't received it yet but I'm sure it will solve my problems. But there are rust issues that I will have to contend with on the stock bucket. So far this rebuild has gone relatively smoothly so I can't complain too much about this little setback.

Anyone need a 6 inch, brand new, headlight bucket with an H4 bulb? I know where you can get one cheap.

As far as the ears are concerned I got them from Frenchy at Crescent Moon. Click the link at the bottom of this page.

Well, a little excitement around here. I got the body parts back from the painter today.

Image

Had to see a little preview of what the color on the bike might look like.

Image

Also started in on the rusty headlight bucket I scored on EBay. Getting ready to paint it and need to remove all vestiges of shiny chrome.

More later.

That's a great shade of blue. I really like it.

Can't wait to see it all mounted up.

SCHWEET!

It's guys like you that give me hope! I spoke to the painter on Thursday, he said my parts might be done in a week. I told him not to hurry - Still need to beg for the money from She That Holds The Checkbook.

Made quite a bit of progress this weekend but not as much as I hoped. I was thinking that I would get the final drive and rear wheel mounted but we fell just short. We did get the rear fender, tail & brake light mounted as well as the license plate bracket with helmet holder installed. Also got the headlight bucket painted, mounted and wire harness all hooked up. Managed to blow the diode in the neutral circuit while doing this, not sure how that happened. We didn't have power on the bike while disconnecting and reconnecting the harness connections. Anyway pictures of this weekends progress.

I know we're getting close to done with this project because my pile of plastic freezer bags full of parts is getting quite small. Tells us we don't have far to go :-D.

No, that is a brand new connector male and female. It is packed slam full of dielectric grease as a precaution.

Some nice little touches with the tail light and I like the color too. Going to look real sharp. Gee, I wonder which one you will ride to Randakk's rally?

Well the plan is I ride my yellow '82 and the grandson rides the blue '81. We'll have to see how things work out.

The color is 2007 Chrysler Viper Blue, picked it out of a catalog of paint chips. I knew I wanted the Chrysler color because I had seen it on Dodge trucks, PT Cruisers and some Durangos and knew it was a close match to my wife's trike color. Its actually cheaper than the Honda paint because its not a pearl. Not sure of the brand but I will next week when the painter redoes some pieces and finishes up on others.

I've been following your build and referencing your work since I'm doing close to the same thing on an 80 GL1100. Awesome work, thanks for the pics especially! It's helping me a lot to remember where some of this stuff is gonna go when I finally get to putting mine back together.

Keep it up! Can't wait to see her finished

Grandson had his MSF BRC course this weekend. Couple of pictures of him and his class on the range. He thought it was a lot of fun and he learned some good stuff.
