Next, I'll transfer this pattern to some 1/4" plate so I can weld some tubing for the intake. I will most likely make the water outlet round for braided hose.

Still time to go with fuel injection, just can't justify the cost of an ECU. Any ideas?

The cost of FE is not really the ECU hardware but the software. Any can ECU would do good, but they are not easy to recode so that is where it gets expensive.

Remember this process needs no business case as it is a hobby. The cost of the ECU is for entertainment and the bike is a byproduct when you are done. Does that help with justification???

Checkout microsquirt. Its what i plan on using. I think its around $350ish, then youll need all the associated hardware and a laptop to tune with. The software is free.

Sometimes crappy ideas work out.

I sent an e-mail to Microsquirt, thanks for the tip. It took me over a year to build my last bike, 3 months into this one and I am still trying to decide, Carbs or FI? Went to Motec and contacted Kinsler, the FI price tag was over $5,000. I get a tip yesterday and it looks like less than $500. This is why my builds take so long, I don't mind changing directions.

Liking how you are sharing your thoughts. I planned on a braided stainless hose conversion on an engine, the stock water tubes look rather, well, plumberish. lol

Thats a good idea to switch the water pipes to hose. Gain a little space on top of engine by rerouting hose. More room for a blower manifold in my case.

Has anyone checked in using a used FI off a modern bike to retro fit to the GL

Thanks, I really appreciate all the comments.

Yes, I've got a pretty big pile of parts I don't expect to need. I think the braided water hoses will be a clean way to go. Should be pretty simple. I will keep all the notes so I will be able to help others convert their GL's I don't plan to use the stock radiator, but I'll keep those records as well so someone could convert easier.

I may need a little help figuring out if the small water hose coming out of the block, under the thermostat is a bypass or steam/air bleed?

Thanks,

I really like the look of that Moto Guzzi. After my last build, I made a mandate for this build. Every straight line I can control, will match: the ground, the forks or the rear shocks. Much easier to say than to do. Not sure brave is the word I would use to describe my Sawzall work, Masochist seems more accurate.

We were also thinking about a different radiator. Maybe something from a sportbike or sport-tourer. I think some Hondas have radiators on the sides under the side fairings. They might be better being aluminum. Also heard of someone using a oil cooler plumbed as a radiator.
