Still waiting on tires. Ran into a few problems- Those Nissin calipers that looked so easy to replace the pads were frozen up or at least the special screw that holds the pads in place. Ended up drilling it out and will use a long 6mm stainless bolt with a locking nut on the back. I just hope the pistons aren't frozen also. Managed to get the swing arm mounted and the cir-clip back in place. Still working on the rubber boot! The left hand switch assembly I bought (from a 94 CB1000) that looked so nice and even included a choke lever and cable as part of the unit, is not compatible with any of the clutch perches I have so will either have to find a compatible perch or use the '83 perch I first planned and track down a switch module for the left hand.

I placed an appeal in the tech forum for photos that show how to route the wiring loom. Since I didn't take it apart I have never seen how it is supposed to go together.

Should get the tires and wheels back today. As I get full-swing into the reassembly I keep finding that I am missing things. A bolt here a bracket or nut there. At the moment it is the right foot peg! Left one was there and looks decent, if a little rusty but I guess I will have to track one down on ebay. $10 for the peg, $15 for the postage! It does get expensive when you have to order a lot of this kind of stuff. Oh, well, no surprise.

Yep, always a joy getting one in boxes. Looks like you've got a good run on it though. :-D

I've got an old Kawasaki G3 sitting in the garage that came home in two plastic boxes...still don't know if I have all the parts to put that one back together.

Got the wheels back today with the tires mounted. I have to re-install the bearings and rotors and then get them balanced. Ran into a problem with the back wheel though. The bearing behind the retainer was left in for powder coating and now is frozen. Will have to track down a bearing and seal and see if I can get the old one out. There was a thread on here recently about the special tool but I can't remember who posted it.

Found the link to the motion pro tool and the all balls bearing kit and have them on order so should be here in a few days. Still a lot of work to do but it is starting to look like a motorcycle again. Problem now is not to get in too big a rush!

I was supposed to go on a ride today to meet some Wing riders in Luling, Tx but got rained out. But that is good because we really, really, need the rain!

I know you ordered parts, but maybe this will help. When I took out my rear wheel bearings, I used a 3/4" bolt, about 6" long, and cut a slit down the center of it.

Once I had the retainer out, I put the bolt through to where the threads were through the bearing, and took an old flat blade screwdriver and pounded it into the cut on the bolt, making a wedge. A few sharp hits on the bolt with a hammer, and the bearing was out. Pulled screwdriver out, turned bolt around, and repeated process for the other side.

Like I say, maybe it will help you out. :-)

Here is a shot of what my "tool" looks like:

Thanks, great idea. I don't know what is underneath the retainer but the bearing on the other side has already been removed. I am hoping I can just knock the one that remains out by using a socket or pipe of the correct size but if it is not possible I will use your split-bolt.

The rear wheel needs bearings and both will have to be balanced but I couldn't resist putting it together to see how it looks. I think with the rear disk in place the front and rear wheels will look fine with each other. Still a lot of stuff to go on and lots of issues to deal with but there is progress.

The PO disassembled the bike and rebuilt the carbs with a Randakk kit. He is a mechanic at a Ford/Lincoln dealership so I am hoping he got it right. But still I am a bit nervous about final tuning of the carbs. I have had Pistol Pete do the last two sets for me and it was just a matter of hooking them up and going for a ride. No further adjustment required for either bike. I just can't see this being that easy!

The front is a 120/90 18 and the back is 130/90 17, my local dealer was having trouble getting a 17" radial to go with the one that was on the bike so I ended up replacing them both with the bias tires. Now all three of my Wings have the Dunlop 404's. I am not especially sold on them but for what it is worth they match!

The front end is mounted up more or less permanently but I am waiting on a new throttle control and cables before I install the gas tank. Consequently the rear wheel is still off. The rear caliper is overhauled and ready to go on but no brake line, no brake pedal, and the master cylinder I have from the Haiabusa (sp?) has to be adapted so until I have a brake pedal (which I thought I had) I can't go ahead with the adaptation.

Last evening was a perfect evening to work outdoors so I thought I would tie up a few loose ends: battery cables and misc. wiring items. I had been putting off connecting the wire to the neutral switch. Getting down that low is not fun! But the time had come so screwdriver in hand I lay down to do the deed--only to find the switch is directly behind a motor mount. I know, I should have seen it coming.

My first inclination was to drill a hole in the mount but it was unlikely a tiny hole would line up with the screw head, and well, drilling into the frame just doesn't seem right. Next thought was to ignore it. Who needs a neutral light and it probably won't work anyway! But my dear wife said something to the effect of "you might as well do it now and get it over". So I did! It took all of my evening but after removing all the frame bolts, the bottom radiator hose, the oil filter housing (fresh oil) the fan mount screws, swing arm bolts and probably some other things I don't remember, I was able to pry the frame down just enough to get a screwdriver to line up enough to loosen the screw. I am about half way through re-installing everything but it is too dark to go on. I am satisfied that it will only take a half hour or so to get back to where I was.

The Postman brought the throttle control yesterday and I was able to get everything hooked back up. Today I received the brake pedal so this weekend I will work on adapting the Haibusa rear master cylinder. I have electrical controls now from several different manufacturers so sorting out the wiring and shortening the cables for the clip-on bars is going to be an interesting process. I hope I can get enough of it wired to see if it will start. Big question, since I didn't do the carbs (nor did Pistol Pete who usually gets my work). I will be ready for cosmetics before too long.

I have not installed the gas tank yet so there may be interference, but it appears a very simple adapter bracket made from 3/8 or 1/4 flat bar will be all that is required. I will mount a larger bolt through the hole in the frame web and into the middle of the adapter between the two threaded holes on the master cylinder. The adapter will have two holes to align with the holes in the master cylinder. A longer tube from the reservoir will be required and a method for securing the reservoir but that part seems simple enough.
