If you can make the tank sealed up except for the filler port, put her on the stove & boil just a bit of water till she steams. Put the stopper on it, then let her cool. she'll crumble up like a cheap beer can in just a few minutes.
Done this as a demonstration to my grandkids. Used an empty paint thinner can.
Guaranteed she'll be much thinner.

I like your work...yer a MAD man! If you came over you'd be whuppin me fer movin so slow.

progress today...upper triple clamp
Tooka bottom and ground off the weld that holds the stem in.
Beat out the stem
ground a slight taper in the resulting hole.
used a upper bearing inner race cut in to 4 segements as a force fit taper to tighten up the fit onto the top of the stem
Tightening the upper spanner nut forces the tapered bearing segments into the tapered hole in the triple clamp like a giant compression fitting
Solid steel with 4 bolts IMHO it will be sturdy
IDK what is up with this camera?
Maybe it is the flash?
All my work looks fine in person but it looks like crap to me when ever I take a picture

Fish,

Are you going let the new start solenoid 'hang in the wind', or make a custom cover? Loved the tank mod process.

I must admit I do NOT like the lights... IMHO they are way too big, too high & too wide mounted
I am going to keep them tho-
IMHO they are safer than the cool teeny ones...no matter how bright the teeny ones are

If you could track down some '59 Cadillac tail lights they would fit perfectly.
