Some views of this finished rear seat hump on the bike with some hints of the next modification that I have been working on courtesy of randakks twin carb manifolds.

Re: Full Carbon Fibre GL1000 Goldwing
I have some way to go with the fabrication but thanks to the fellows at Eurocarb i have most of the bits needed now.
One thing I love about the twin carb look is the open space it creates, this not only shows off my earlier CF work to replace the inner tin cowl but also makes plenty of space for future mods.
Hopefully my build gets as far as some nitrous in that void, accessed through the faux petrol tank glove box....... A long way off right now though.

Re: Full Carbon Fibre GL1000 Goldwing
So, a word about the carbs. For me, having grown up in Europe, Dellorto is a name much more synonymous with motorcycle carburation than Weber. For that reason alone (obviously the DRLA being a carb designed for car use) i wanted dellortos. The fact that i was able to pick up a relatively cheap set from a bloke in croatia was a bonus.
Anyway, they are visually very similar to weber 40's
But the similarities become less detailed when looking at the emulsion tube, jet settings and air progression (in the case of the matched pair i am using).
Anyway, my settings appear to be differing significantly from those recommended for the equivalent weber sized carbs. I am using Eurocarb who are the official Dellorto dealer in the UK and will update as the tuning progresses. For the visual impact alone, i hope i can get them going well. It just looks so different to any other motorcycle with the big carbs hanging out either side.
As the photos show, i have no issues with clearance on the side panels of the tank. This is a moot point as i plan on sculpting new covers with cuts for my knees and to allow the handlebars to be in a more aggressive, traditional cafe racer stance when on full lock.
Before all this, there is a throttle linkage to fabricate, which i won't complete until my next home period.

Re: Full Carbon Fibre GL1000 Goldwing
A quick word on the randakk manifolds; quite neat, pretty raw as he suggests, the instructions are comprehensive if you wish to replicate his exact design. In short, if you have the time and inclination you could fabricate similar, I opted not to due to lack of kit and am very pleased with what they sent me.
I went with a metallic silver paint on top of high temp enamel base. I then finished off with some temp resistant lacquer.
I debated making the air trumpets from CF using old ones i have in my toolbox from some DHLA's I had on my old TVR. I decided to go with some gourmet machined versions from a single piece of aluminium. Again, very pleased with eurocarbs product.
I am not going for a rain hat for the carbs, just the gauze velocity stacks. This is due to 2 factors:
1/ It doesn't rain much in WA, in fact its the sunniest listed city in the Bureau of meteorology for australia with around 280 days of sunshine per year
2/ Due to '1' I am unlikely to feel the need to ride in the rain even if it is raining.

The bike looks great Hoops.
The Dell'Orto carbs will tune in fine. Whatever emulsion tubes are the standard will work (like the F11's in the Webers - they are pretty much what everyone goes with). The idle and high speed jets may take a bit of tweaking but if you have a Dell'Orto guy around he can probably figure things out from the Randakk baseline jetting for the Webers. I played with a lot of different jettings on mine and other than being richer on the top end (different exhaust?? not sure), it ended up pretty close to what Randakk originally came up with.
Wait till you hear the intakes when you twist the throttle with bad intentions. It just doesn't get any better than that.

Very happy with him and proud about it all, especially the wife, pretty epic what women have to go through for children. The bike suddenly seems less of a priority, but I will keep plugging away with it. I looked into it and any moto riding as a pillion or passenger, even in a side car is illegal in my state until the child is 8 years old.
If he never wants to ride that is OK, its his choice, but he will inherit my bikes one day or another........http://www.ngwclub.com/forum/posting.ph ... 6&p=606574#

Re: Full Carbon Fibre GL1000 Goldwing
I'm keen for that. I had seen Randakks blog and that caught my interest in the intake arrangement, but reading some of the threads, in particular your story of building and tuning white trash sent me down the path. Now i have started to bolt it all up I know its the only way forward for me. I MUST get them working. Its crazy how close the riders ears will be to those intakes. I can't think of another vehicle i have ever seen that comes close to offering the same potential intake face massage sensation. The twin Dellorto 40's i used to run on my TVR sounded awesome and they were muffled under the bonnet. So I'm pretty excited for the day when i get to roll out on it and wind it open.gregforesi wrote:The bike looks great Hoops.

Re: Full Carbon Fibre GL1000 Goldwing
Thank you Randall. I still have alot of work to do. Tank panel gaps need improving on the next side covers, lots of carb work, still haven't got my fuel system as i would like it, rewire is needed at the front, Mirrors/ camera etc etc Maybe it will never quite be 'finished' but I am very pleased and grateful for the excellent service and quality products I have received via Doug. My favorite piece is still the superbrace, Aesthetically pleasing and noticably tightens up the front so functional aswell.randakk wrote:Hoops: Looking great! Re: Full Carbon Fibre GL1000 Goldwing
I find this amusing. Never any "trouble" with the GL100 specifically, the bike was rego'd when i purchased it so it hasn't had to go over the pits as the rego has not lapsed during my ownership. As far as I am aware, all of my mods are within legal specifications, the new lights are correctly e-marked LEDs and rear light is legal, it is pre-80 so doesn't have to have a permanent headlight etc. If any of them were not legal i would change them so that they are. Its not worth the risk, especially in WA.chartoo wrote:Did you have any trouble with rego or the cops in Perth? Gotta register mine soon in perth
I have never experienced such a speed/ motorcycle conscious police force as in WA. This is my 3rd continent that I've lived on and as a frugal road rider (generally now, I do all of my hooning on a track or drag strip) I had never been caught speeding. When I lived in texas i was pulled over once, just so the Chap could check out the bike mostly, he was a very friendly fellow. In the EU I was once pulled for filtering, but it was not an illegal maneuver and the chap was more just wanting to discuss filtering etiquette, also pulled for the police to chat about the bike on another occasion.
In WA, despite having ridden probably less than 10% of my combined milage on the other 2 continents they have pulled me over 3 times and been fairly aggressive in their questioning. On 2 occasions I was riding along, with no traffic around well below the speed limit and the reason was that they were 'targeting bikers' whatever that means. On the 3rd occasion it turned into a 1000 dollar day as I was subject to anti-hoon laws and a heavy penalty for speeding. It was an open road with no traffic in the wheat belt, i was not really excessively speeding and was riding with my brother, i was just unlucky not to be vigilant with my speed at the time......... but the fines here are Immense.
So the short answer is, i have had more 'trouble' in WA than anywhere else I've ever lived as a motorcyclist. I hope it has made me a better, more vigilant rider. Going over the pits isn't too bad, I did it with my Rocket, which i shipped over from texas, it had fairly extensive engine mods, LEDs, non standard shocks, bars etc but i don't believe any of that was tested, it was cheap and quick to do. Took about 40 mins from memory and was maybe 65 AUD??? I also had to get a 48hr permit to drive it to the test center which was done online and cost about 40 AUD i think.
