Re: GL1000 build - soon to be Fuel Injected
Been a long time since I've updated this post. Basically been busy with home build/renovations. Mid December I decided to start working on the bike again, so quite a bit has happened over week ends and the odd evening after work.
Will add some pics soon, probably in no particular order. Basically everything has been rebuilt/renewed or upgraded in some way. Had an issue with some marks in one of the cylinders which I honed best I could. Compression seems equal on all 4 so I hope that worked. Engine hasn't fired up.
Some of the bigger items completed:
waterpump rebuild done
new timing belts
Heads rebuilt. Also had them skimmed about 0.08mm.
calipers rebuilt with new SS pistons.
New Tyres. Attempted a tubeless conversion. Worked initially then failed. So now I have tubes inside the tubeless tyres.
Got media in the final drive during vapour blasting. Had to rebuild the entire thing with new bearings and paid for labour. $$$
New alls balls head stem bearings, swingarm bearings, wheel bearings
engine painted
On the fuel injection front, the high pressure fuel pump has been fitted in the tank. Tank got relined and sprayed.
Started making progress on the bmw k1200 throttle bodies that will be going on to replace the carbs.
Busy making the braket for the 36-1 trigger wheel that will mount to the crank pulley.
As at right now she's just about a rolling chassis.

First I had to get my workspace organized. And got the frame on the worktable I built previously.

also ran a tap through the head bolt holes to ensure they're clean and the heads torque down correctly.

discovered some watermarks/rust/minor pitting in the no 2 cylinder. Tried resolving it best I could.

Used a ball hone to clear it up.

Re: GL1000 build - soon to be Fuel Injected
was held up waiting on a new neutral switch from netherlands. But finally the heads were on, the new belts, tensioners etc and the motor could go back in the frame. Or rather the frame could go onto the motor....

Re: GL1000 build - soon to be Fuel Injected
Discovered the rear coupler on the driveshaft was worn. Luckily I found a good condition one at the breakers. Was slightly different to my 75 original's one but fitted just fine. Also grabbed the seal that came on the later models which keeps the grease at the coupler joint in place.

coupler seal. I didn't drill and fit the zerk fitting. Think I'll prefer to pull the wheel and inspect the grease etc every couple thousand km's instead.

random pics of the attempted tubeless conversion and some work on the frame. Mostly just mocking up stuff as I go along to see how it would look.
