A full day of wrenching yesterday. I got the head back from Robin during the week and decided to attack on Saturday morning. Tom (Streetwing) came over to join in the fun and frolic.
Here she is all ready for surgery. Note shop manual at the ready!
Number one piston at TDC, then backed off 10mm as per shop manual.
The block mating surface is clean and ready to go so on with the gasket.
Cam shaft assembly is removed from the head. New o-rings inserted in intake manifolds and air injection tubes. The head was wiggled into place on the new dowels and the head bolts torqued as per spec.
The front air injection tube was a bear! I had to remove one of the exhaust manifold studs to get it to clear. The intake runners were then tightened down.
Crash bar and muffler then reinstalled.
Camshaft installed as per manual and the all 12 valves checked and set.
Timing belt installed and set timing. (No I did not crank her over just for old times sake before installing the belt)
Front cover and valve covers installed.
Got her started and she ran great! HOOOOOOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! No leaks anywhere . . . until she got to temp. Then I had a radiator leak. Kind of puzzling because I did not see any damage to it. After close inspection by Tom, we could see that the large gasket in the cap was cut. This is the cap I am using for now, but I think I may order a new one.
I installed the highway pegs today and will finish installing the right hand grip and re-installing the throttle lock later. All is good and spent last evening celebrating with Mr. Macanudo and Mr. Mark!
