Ours has some rust/pitting. Yours would be greatly appreciated. Dog Boy said you are the king at finding parts. I was wondering if you or anyone else knows where to find a couple new cushions for the tach/speedo. Ours are pretty crusty. I remember there was a discussion on that some time ago and GL1000 were out of production, but another model was available. I can pm you with my address or just send to Dog Boy. (He's getting the radiator, just doesn't know it  )
That's cool. My Mom's next door neighbor owns a radiator shop. Neighbor discount!!

Al,

Shoot me your address again so I don't have to dig though my old inbox. Also, if your going to have those gauges redone, new rubber is still available from Honda: Speedo/Tach Rubber Seals, Honda #37235-323-700 (fits 1000 and 1100) Hondabike.com Part #5 on their fiche . . . $11.04 each at Hondabike.com. (Lately, it seems that this shop always has the best prices.)

Ok, bike is basically apart. Engine still in frame, but we can remedy that on the 26th. I did find some bad tonight. I removed the gas tank and took a hose to the inside. Chunks of rust came out. There are holes I can see through in the bottom of the tank. It is toast, so we will need a new tank. I also noticed the baffles are missing from the muffler, so we will need a set. The kick start mechanism on the back of the motor is chrome on an LTD. Our chrome is shot. A chrome replacement would be great if we can find one. Check your inventory Al and see if you have any of the above.

Cyclepsycho offers reconditioned tanks I think but the shipping would be a deal breaker .....

If Al doesn't have one I could ask Doug (CYBORG).

I have no documentation to support this but I personally believe the tank is just that...a tank. If indeed it was plated in some way, wouldn't it follow that it wouldn't so easily rust?

Forget who, someone on the site, a long time ago, said they were nickle plated. seemed strange to me at the time. I have, I think , an early tank. I'll ck it out tomorrow, let me know if you need it

I have personally looked at the tank in a very low mileage LTD. It isn't nickel plated.

Well the 4.5 keys aren't even Honda. Look like cabinet lock keys like were used on many aftermarket fairings and bags.

Couldn't find the key code on the ignition switch, so cut one from a helmet lock's code. Yea, they're keyed alike! Started cleaning the ignition switch, and there's the code, on the lock barrel. I've never seen a 5 number code there before.

Found a couple of wafers mangled in the console lock and while looking for parts I saw some keys that looked familiar. WooHoo, OEM keys in the correct code!

Finished cleaning the locks, now to get them boxed and mailed.
