Me too on BOTM. It's deserved.

Kinda a update,

"new" starter on crate engine gave up the ghost as we were getting it running. Put a starter on it that I had, used unknown history. Cranked hard but cranked. Rode the bike till it got to operating temperature, and hard crank was a lot less. Let the bike cool, and back to hard crank. Pulled it off, nothing too bad, regreased and clean it up. No joy, still hard to crank.

Dropped some coin, new one on it's way....

Might want to pull that crate starter apart. Hard to see what could be wrong with a new old OEM part. Might be more likely a bad ground. That was an issue on BADDOG until I reconnected the ground at the engine mount triangle.

And just a note, the "triangle mount" was ground clean from powder coat on the rebuild work.

The thing about"new"parts that sit around for a while, they don't always act "new"

Olde Wing is looking great! Looks like you're there and ready to do some catching up to put the mileage somewhere the years suggest it should be - once the new starter arrives.

A digital ohmeter will tell the tale. Read resistance from that new starter to the NEG battery terminal. If all connections are clean and crisp, it should read very low on the 200 ohm scale.

Congrats on getting the old machine running!
