Thanks Brant...

4 new plugs went in today and she runs better, fires up right on the button now, but still does a lean-sounding pop in one carb once off idle. So it's off with the carbs for a check of float height first, and got to get a carb balancer too.

edit: did a bit of by-ear tweaking of the offending carb synch screw; idles nice, no pops off-idle on cracking it open. So an balancer is on order.

It sounds ace, rumbly and fierce. Like Satan ordering breakfast... Would be out riding if it weren't for the garage door collapsing so am welding that up atm.

Hello, I looked at the link for the POR product.
It seems to be limited to metal surfaces NOT painted.

If I'm wrong please educate me on what would work over a hi temp engine paint.

Thanks
quoted from the POR web page;

A Brilliant Two-Component Clear Coating

GLISTEN PC is a High Gloss, Rock Hard, Water-clear topcoat designed for spray or brush application over all metal surfaces, including highly polished aluminum and chrome surfaces. GLISTEN PC will not leave brushmarks, and will dry in less than one hour, but will take 3-4 days to reach maximum hardness.

When GLISTEN PC is first dry to the touch, it will appear to be very soft. Avoid touching it for several days until it becomes hard and tough. Accidental contact could damage the surface before full cure has taken place. Like many other coatings, GLISTEN PC is a MOISTURE-CURED coating, which means it is strengthened by exposure to moisture. It will never crack, chip, peel, or yellow, and is very flexible as well.

Note: When applying over polished metals (aluminum, chrome, brass, copper etc) you must use AP120 metal prep according to instructions.

IDEAL USES: As a protective coating on aluminum wheels, chrome bumpers, marine railings, chrome or aluminum covers, grills, handles, ornaments, lights, etc

I still haven't got round ot ordering it yet. Will do so this week.

That might be a good coating over old chrome and valve covers after polishing. Keep posted on how you make out I might try it also. 8)

Rechecked float heights, messes around with adjustments by ear, and ran it up to bleed the system. Cooked my silencer paint, again :-/ sh*tty 1k can't stand any warmth it seems. Cans weren't hot or anything. O well, live & learn. Going to re-do them in heatproof paint and put up with them not matching the other detail parts.

So we went for a couple of short rides, not strictly legal but hey... Badly needs a carb balance. Brakes feel ineffective, esp. the rear, new pads needed. The shocks feel quite 'dead' and I wouldn't mind raising the back end an inch or so. But feels good, sounds good, can't wait to sort it out...

Got some teeny tiny people in these parts (see by front wheel)

Thanks a lot guys :)
It was great to finally go for a blat...

sb, the headers were on the bike so I'd assumed they were 79 ones, don't know if there's differences in the years etc, or if these are aftermarket or anything.
The weather's strange, blue & sunny days but the pond freezes over at night. Spose 'normal service will be resumed' shortly, i.e. rain & grey stuff...
I tried to record the thing with a cellphone, but it was rubbish. Might try the laptop out on it.

Kat,

Thank you for the inspiring pics. I am at the first step of a similiar journey, and everytime I get ready to start, I get a case of nerves and back away to reconsider. When I need to re-ignite my commitment to having a GoldWing that folks pause to look at (in a good way), I cruise through some of the pictorials here at NGW.

Thanks!

Scott

This reminds me of a guy I wnet to music school with. He just cut an album with somebody from Led Zepplin and a country singer.
He said I've been playing guitar for eight hours a day for ten years and now people say I'm talented.
Your bike is a lot like that, you worked for it.
Enjoy life,
