Why oh why would a charging transformer be so delicate. It is not doing a big transformation to drop 14V to 5V or whatever.

Yep I agree. The first one was mounted near the alternator so I thought possible RF interference but the last 2 I placed up inside the fairing so that should eliminate that as a possible cause. They are switched so only have power when the bike is on. Would not be bad but the replacement including shipping is like 55 Bucks and getting hard to find.

Took Wife for quick ride out to the farmers market in Pungo. Only about 60 miles but first ride in a couple 3 weeks. Felt Good! She works tomorrow so maybe I can sneak out for a couple hundred. uggggg I really should work on the oil leaks for the 1200 but weather is really nice! Decisions decisions!!

I've noticed over the years that oil leaks don't trend to heal themselves, so go ride; they will still be there when the weather changes! :-D

Thing is that the nice weather is nice inside the shop as well. Not a million degrees like most July August days. If I don't do it now a punishingly hot day will be coming.

Aah, there's the difference; weather here never changes to heat, so I was thinking change to rain.

Brought it to the house. 78 GL1000.

I blame fitscott for this "new" project. And it was fellow Texan that enabled my addiction. 😉

First GL1000, so I will wear out search function & probably everyone's patience.

Here it is, only have to "get started".

And yes, I will be changing the belts. 😁

Best wishes!

Plans are very modest. Running engine begin with. Then replace everything that time deteriorated. Nothing too crazy or wild.

Figured need "learn to walk 1st". Gold Wings are new to me.

My father-in-law had one 78. Actually will use his old Honda service manual to do restoration. That & the info from this site.

Have restored 65 BSA 650 Lightning (given to me in boxes! Whitworth anyone?) 67 & 71 Triumph Bonnies and last one I finished was 1978 CX500. Exactly like my 1st bike.

Do more restoration than riding these days honestly.

Had do something though when lost wife to cancer. Guess it's 'busy' therapy. And it's satisfying when done. Don't ever get $$ back when sell 'em. Worth it just for challenges & all important keeping me busy.

Best wishes.

My first was a 78. Getting a Randakk carb set with the nitrile o-rings ought to be on your list of purchases. Finding that front brake caliper could be a fun quest.
Enjoy your project. It's a better hobby than a business. I'm looking forward to your progress.

I flushed the brake fluid on the '83 Blue Phoenix. Nothing fancy.
Avatar is a summer '21 photo of the Blue Phoenix, our 1983 GL1100I rescue gone naked.

In the Stable and Ridable

1992 ST1100 - my longer haul tourer
1987 VFR700 - son's latest, in blue/silver
1983 GL1100I - son's naked Blue Phoenix
1982 GL1100I - naked bagger Cabernet (surf bike)
1979 GL1000 - Ginger Lynn, but not that Ginger Lynn (Wing and a Prayer)
1978 CB550K - son's cafe
1983 CB550SC - one owner, 5k, great paint & seat/good chrome (will soon sell)
1986 VFR700 - fun throwback in RWB

Active and Semi-active Project(s)
FrankenWing - 1980 GL1100 motor in 1982 or 1983 frame (still deciding, so maybe semi-active).
