How do I get the speedo/tach gauges apart?

#1

Post by staab »

I figure since the faces of my speedo and tach are weather beaten and look terrible I would take the housings apart and paint the faces. So I was wondering if there was anyway to get them out without prying off the trim ring. Anyone know a different method of getting in there? It's off a 75 btw. thanks.

You have to very carefully cut the ring off of the speedo & tach. The is a couple of sellers on ebay making apliques on ebay. Here's one: http://motors.search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtp ... FSQ3aMESOI

He's got some nice stuff!!

I know they're not OEM, but I really like the white faces!!!!

My Oldwing is only an afterthought for me because Me and my lady just couldn't ride a thirty year old BSA cross country (or at least SHE couldn't!). Either way, the speedo and tach are crimped together with that steel ring, and cannot be done at home unless you're a really good watch maker or something. They should be sent to a bona-fide speedo rebuilder with the right stuff. Do a Google and find a good shop.
