repair manual wanted
Are there any repair manules available for download like we have for our Goldwings? Going to look at a GL500 tomorrow that sounds pretty good for a commuter bike.

Thanks Ron. I'll wait till Monday to see if I can print this one. Taking some cash and a trailer to look at an 81 today.

OK so MBS has raised it's head and a new toy appeared. It's an 81 and for the most part it is a complete bike. So far all I know it needs is a choke cable, front master cylinder, battery cover, air box, some work on the seat, lots of cleaning and a front tire. I think it is worth the $300 and may even include a parts bike that is still with the prior owner.

Steve, I already have my share of supervisors including one not so friendly dog but I will keep you in mind.
If anyone is interested, I printed a copy of the manual mentioned by Ron. I will mail it to you for cost of postage. It is single sideded and about two inches thick.

the choke cable is still available from Honda...they say in the manual that the carbs must come out to install it...it ain't so...remove the tank and use a long pair of needle nose and a long, flexable screwdriver and it goes fairly easy....been there, done it...T

The cable was easy to remove since the airbox is missing. There is plenty of room for my hands. I do plan to pull the carbs because the left side will not drain and I'm sure they could use a good cleaning. Going shopping tomorrow at an indoor mc salvage yard. They have a wide varity of parts scattered over a couple of floors of an old wharehouse. I have a list of items to look for. Don't want to get too crazy buying parts until I find out about that parts bike the prior owner has. Tomorrow will be more looking than buying.

Al, it looks like a good score on the bike. You mentioned an indoor mc salvage yard. Do you have any info on it (Name, address, etc)?
You can send me an e-mail or a PM.
I need a winter motorcycle related road trip. My wing is in pieces in my garage and it is a long winter. I live in KC and just might make a run.
Thanks, Todd

There are two places that I have delt with.
OUTPOST MOTORCYCLE SALVAGE - Hwy. T - P.O. Box 238 - Rosebud, MO 63091 near Union Mo
and
http://www.archwayintl.com/about.htm
The pictures make the place look a lot cleaner than it really is.
Have you ever attended the annual swap meet in Sedalia or KC ? I've been wanting to visit one of them to see what I could find.

Thanks for the info.
I have been to 50 HWY Cycle Salvage, which is just west of Warrensburg, MO. He has a good selection, some stuff in the field behind the building and inside also. He usually lets you wander around anywhere you want, which is what I like to do. He can be reasonable, and not. It just depends.
If the swap meet you are talking about is the one I go to all of the time, dont waste your time going to Sedaila, unless you want Harley stuff. I have been twice and 99% of the items are Harley. I believe it is the same promoter that does the swap meets in KC (Independence) at the Twin drive in on HWY 291. He also does Oklahoma City. They sometimes have some interesting items but it is about 80% Harley. My friend and I go all of the time. Usually on the third Sunday of the month.
That is the only motorcycle swap meet I am aware of around here. If you know of any others, let me know, I am always up for a little swap and shop.

Tried to do some shopping today but Archway has changed from a salvage house to a gold mine. Steve was right. They wanted $75 for a sad looking master cylinder and another $75 for a side cover. Didn't buy either. They wouldn't even allow us to walk around the main floor without an escort. In the past, I've been all over the building only being escorted part of the time. Think I'll do my shopping on ebay. Progress today was fix a flat on the bike and the truck, found the wiring problem, had her running for a while, choke cable is now working, disassembled the master cylinder that doesn't pump, new plugs in the GL and some cleaning. Busy day.

This weeks progress included the front master cylinder so now the brakes are working. Even rode it around the block. Tried to take the kickstand off but the bolt would not come out because the exhaust is in the way. The top of the kickstand appears to be bent and leaves too much free play to hold the bike in a safe upright position. Trying my hand at making a new seat cover. I'll see if it fits later on today. Just waiting for nicer weather to have some real fun.

Finally figured out the problem with the kickstand. the metal plat that is part of the frame is worn to the point that it can't tighten down evenly. I drilled out the hole and fashioned a sleeve to make it work better but it still has more free play than I like. Also removed the crossover today and getting the parts ready to mount the sporty mufflers. Too many projects going on around here today and the only one that got done was to install a new battery in the wing. Tomorrow is another day.
