Gunfighter Comfort?

#1

Post by Whiskerfish »

Hey All

New here but not to old wings and such. I have a dressed 78 GL1000 and over Christmas aquired a second 78 but Naked. She was/ is pretty rough looking but I got her up and running. She is just about State Inspection ready but the more I think about it the more I am thinking I want to do something other than the stock look. So I am looking at fabricating my own exhaust and spending the money on a Corbin gunfighter seat. Them things ain't cheap and I just want to hear from a couple of folks on how comfortable they are. My dresser will be my over the road bike but I have a standard local run of about 200 miles and am worried about that seat and my butt!! The Gunfighter looks a bit shy on the padding. Any of you guys can say anything good or bad about them??

Also does it require any fab to mount up??

Thanks

I have a Gunfighter on my '76 GL1000. My bars are low, and bike is mildly cafe. I really like the gunfighter. Never does my butt complain.

These seats are very firm and require break in. At about 1,000 miles mine felt better..and now at 16,000 is excellent. If you like a sports postiton then you will like thes I think. You are moved much further back, and much more aggressively postitioned.

Hope that helps.

That is interesting, I never thought about a seat needing a breakin, then again I have not owned a new seat in many years. One of the reasons I am looking at them is the lower profile ( I am "Vertically challenged" ;) ) so it will be interesting to see what a "further back" riding position does to me. And as for the "Sports position" this is an experiment, I am not sure I will care for it at all but I gotta try this out. Bike will make a ratty looking classic so I might as well make it look different. If I might ask also what kind of bars did you end up using? Thanks for the info and the welcomes guys.

Not a thing!! :P I thought about going that way but there is still a bit too much shine on her for me to ignore! I do have a couple cans of flat black spray paint in the Shed and I could fix the shine but just can't get myself to do it. I have not had a proper Rat bike since I sold my XL350 back in 77. Now that was a monster!

I have a corbin touring seat on my 78 and I have never found it comfortable.... I guess my rear end isn't wide eoungh for the seat so I slways feel like I am riding on the horn

I love my Gunfighter!!! It set you back & down a bit. I did about 7k on it last year. Very comfortable!

For lowering, you could consider shorter shocks; or getting a 75-77 rear wheel & relacing it with a 16" wheel. ;)

Thanks everyone. I have kind of made up my mind that the Gunfighter is the way I want to go. Once I get one in hand then I will look into other mods for dropping the seat height a bit. The changes I plan on for now are bolt on type stuff and things that I can undo if I don't like it. I may look at making those Brackets for raising the top of the rear shocks and play with that some if there is clearance under the seat edge. I think I saw that design here in one of the older pages. I have already dropped the tubes in the trees on my cruiser and will do the same on this bike when I get to that point. Now I just have to figure out what I want to do with the exhaust.

Again Thanks
