Hello again everyone. I got the GW running today. Yippee... as I expected the previous owner wasnt COMPLETLY honest with me about the condition of the bike. hehe I need some info on carburation please the bowls are leaking more fuel than they are spraying. and there is a terrible clunking coming from what I can only think is the clutch basket it happens when i rev the engine hard only low in the rev range up higher its not bad. Ive never owned a wing before so I dont know that it isnt normal. sounds like hell though.
Sorry for the long post but Im a newbee so please dont blast Me. hehe
Thanks John K1

Hey K1;
As Toad Said Get Your Carb Problem Fixed And Out Of The Way First, You Might Be Leaking Excessive Fuel Into Your Engine As Well As Out The Bowls... So Deal With The Carbs First Then Figure Out The Rest... This Is One Of Our Fellow Members, http://www.randakks.com/
Hope This Helps....

Hi K
WELCOME !!!
Hello again everyone. I got the GW running today. Yippee... as I expected the previous owner wasnt COMPLETLY honest with me about the condition of the bike. hehe I need some info on carburation please the bowls are leaking more fuel than they are spraying
Could be due to a number of reasons,
but most likely one or more float needles are stuck open,
, damaged or just crap needles that cant keep tight.
(or they could be misssing( ! ). Seriously; I bought a
set of carbs of a "running" bike and two(!) of the needles
were simply missing...must have been "running" kind of funny).
The bad news is that in order to fix it you need to take of
the whole four-carb-thingie and dismantle, check and fix.

If you take that route, check these links:(note: these are all for the 1000GL models)
CARB REBUILD
and
CARB REBUILD 2
and of cause
Randakks
for the best carb page on the net.

and get a good workshop manual like Haynes, Clymer or the official Honda Workshop Manual.
Check this link: Manuals
and
Manuals

Good luck and please ask questions, so we can help you through this!

Float bowls leaking

#7

Post by Rat »

On the leaky float bowls, could just be junk stuck in the needle seats.
Try tapping the bowl sharply with a screwdiver handle or somesuch.
If you get some improvement, run some Seafoam through her before you tear everything apart.

If it doesn't work, tear everything apart  .

several years ago I had one carb that was not working well on my '78... I drained the carbs, ran a half and half mix of carb cleaner/gas (disconnected the fuel line and used the fuel pump to pump it in) into the sticking carb and let it sit. I know now to drain this after sitting, but then I just started it up... eventually the mixture burned out (lots of smoke) and the carb began working....

this trick is on Randakks site (but I did it in '85 before there was a net, so I am claiming credit for the idea...

if it works for your carb... great.... if not, what have you lost, but a little time
