cx650 advice

for those of you that have M.B.S. (multiple bike syndrome) and have the "silver wing" models.
as our sponsors also have supplies for those bikes and they are popular with the "wing" crowd.

Going to look at a cx650 (owner didn`t say E or C hope it`s an E) he wants $400. with clean title. Is there anything too look for while i`m there (hope it isn`t a sitter) I was looking for something a little smaller than what i have now to zip around on.

That is why I bought the 500. I would look for the same things as any vehicle. Make sure it is complete, try to turn over or even start the engine, tires, rust, and general condition. Mine was $300 and I've got another $100 in fix up costs. It still looks a little rough because the po painted it flat black with rattle cans but it is running great after some plugs, wires, oil, filter, gas filter, front tire, carb cleaning, seat cover, and lots of cleaning. Take his asking price and deduct some for things you can see and make him an offer and be ready to walk away. Most sellers will come down at least $50 at that point. Even I came down a little on a solid 3 wheeler sold recently. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I talked to him a little & it has been in the family since new (but passed from person to person) He said he has lost the key , so they ran a jumper  The reason i found out about it , is he has some GL1000 parts that i might buy & the cx came up. I`m going to most likely look at it tomorrow at 5 pm & see it is worth it (some guy looked at it & offerd $250 & he was pissed off at that offer , so he is some what firm.

Pissing him off would not be the best thing but it would probably be ok to ask what his absolute lowest price would be and if you are buying some other parts it may help.

Well didn`t get a chance today to go look at it , as a buddy from work broke down on the Jersey typk & i had to get a trailer & get him & the car (fuel pump quite) . I figure if he doesn`t sell it in a week or 2 , then i`ll circle like a vulture.

Well he emailed me & said if i wanted to come & look at it he has today off (tuesday) He also said he won`t sell it to someone just going to strip it for parts or sell it for parts. It`s a custom that was fully dressed (can`t wait to see it) i`m sure it has some kind of Vetter fairing & bags or Bates bags ???? Wish he had some pics of it , before i went there & waisted my time & gas. (now up to $2.60 for reg)

650 is about the right size.

I have owned a lot of bikes and I find that 650 to 750 bikes are the best all around size. When you need the power it is there and you get good mileage too. If you need to run to the store you can put a lot in your bags, racks, trunk, and not worry about having getting out of the way of some jerk driver. I will admit that the CX models are a bit snappy out of the hole, but I have found that the best way to avoid accidents on a bike is to leave 'em in your dust. You'll get used to the extra power with time. You can always drive slow, but when you need the power just drop a gear and crack the throttle and your out of there!
Life is short, enjoy the ride.

Yes your right , & they were GL 500 (made frome 81-82) & the GL650 (83 only) they came as a standard & interstate model , called the Silverwing . 9 years ago i had an 83 GL650 interstate (very bargy & buzzy)
