Rebel's Run Leg 2

#1

Post by Wingingit2 »

Rebel is in Chicago and all is well. We had 1 minor trouble on the way from Frenchy's and that was a taillight was out on his bike. All it took was to bend the socket so the bulb kept contact. 5 minutes and we were on the way again.

He will be leaving our house around 10 AM today, Tuesday, for Brant's. There is some weather coming his way, 70 degree rain, but not until Nebraska. considering all the 40 degree rain wehad so far that will be a cake walk.

Glenn & Anne

Edit:
We also needed to bleed the rear brakes. He is on the road.

GOOD LUCK REBEL

Glad he's doing well; I was more than a little worried about him driving cross country on a 30+ year old bike that has been ridden so little recently. Good to see it's holding up!

It was nice to meet a few of you in Niagara Falls, too! Did RR get his bag from Chicago OK?

It came in late that night.......

The bike performed a bit rough at first, but smoothed out after a bit of riding. We went all through just about everything on the bike, looking for potential problems. We worked on quite a bit, & made several adjustments (mostly for comfort). Monday after dialing everything in, Rebel & myself (on Old Yeller) took a quick spin to make sure she was responding as desired.

I hated to see the weekend end! I'm spent from the preparations, the rides, the working on the bike, the staying up too late consuming adult beverages & shooting the bull, & cleaning up when it was done...

I'd gladly do it again!!! I finally got to meet some friends face to face, & share our common interest!

HEY Brant.....did that ax you had me send you get there in time?? ;) ;)
A good bike mechanic only needs two tools, WD40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move, but should, use the WD40. If it does move but shouldn't use the duct tape.

Charlie..shhhhh....thats between you and me......

5:30pm...Just placed a call to the Rebel to check his location. Waiting to hear back. Its starting to look stormy here, possible tornado activity may develop to the north. Reb should miss the worst of it, may have to deal with some high winds. More news as it develops....

The Rebel is safe and sound in Nebraska. Had a rain delay. Met him at 11:30pm at a truck stop about 20 miles north of me. Having a problem, he keeps blowing his main fuse. I had to trailer him in. Will be checking it out.

Check that tail light socket. I had to bend it up pretty good to get the bulb to stay lit.

Glad to hear you made it . Did you stop at JP Cycles???

good Luck on the next leg.

Glad he's there safely!

Did the problem start before or after the rain?

Try to get some wire dry & spray down the plugs around the front left pod cover (the ones for the fuse block), and the ones around the the front of the battery. Also check the connections on the fusible link. We installed it new, & it's possible that there's a bad connection there.

I checked all the large plugs for corrosion, & damage from over-current. Some show signs of being warm in the past. The plastic had a couple small spots distorted from heat, but the blades themselves looked good. I did put a touch of dielectric grease in each plug.

Just a couple things to check.
