Another "Is it worth it?" question

for those of you that have M.B.S. (multiple bike syndrome) and have the "silver wing" models.
as our sponsors also have supplies for those bikes and they are popular with the "wing" crowd.

Another "Is it worth it?" question

#1

Post by Ned »

Saw an ad on CL for a '78 CX500.

Has 29k miles. Equipped with a Windjammer fairing and a trunk. Seller is the original owner. Pictures show a very nice looking machine but I have not seen it in person.

Asking $1,650 (was $1,750 two weeks ago).

While I'm guessing that may be a bit high I'm wondering if the fairing and fact it is a one owner bike counts for anything.

Would welcome any opinions.

It all boils down to whether or not it is a good value for you and the true condition of the bike. If you pay the money and ride it for two or three years with basic maintenance, you got good deal. If you have to spend another $1K after you buy it it's a lousy deal.

When I look at used bikes, I look for ridability. When I buy it, will I be able to get on and go with little or no more out of pocket? I broke my own rule when I bought my GS850 and it is nickle and diming me to death. I spent $400 when I could have spent a $1000 on a same year GS1100L. I was thinking out of pocket instead of looking to future expenditures. I know the guy who bought the 1100 and he hasn't put a dime into it while I've put an additional $300 into mine plus all the down time I could have been riding.
