Here are the instructions included in an oil dipstick kit. Just adding it to the GL library.

Thanks. I just had mine off and back on tonight. It was already marked for level when screwed all the way in, though. They seem to be pretty adamant about checking the level without it screwed down?

This product is no longer offered by JC Whitney. Or anyone else, as far as I can tell. Too bad, I would like to have one.

They gave up on them as most of the recently manufacured ones leaked.

My 78 came with one. Lots of sticks are checked on the threads. Screw in and check is less common.

I don't know who made the stick. I just found the literature in a box of parts and thought it would be good to post it for future reference.

This is a little different, but you get the idea. Yes it did leak.

Mine leaked so I got rid of it. I use a mirror and a small flashlight to check the oil while leaning over the seat...elegant it ain't...

My 83 came with one of these on it. Not leaking yet. One issue is that when draining the oil nut #4 has to be loosened. If you don't hold #2 while doing this it won't take long to start leaking. It is still a slow drain though. I had one a long time ago I liked better because it came out behind the radiator. I think that may be it in Hott's picture. It did require two new seal washers each time but at least the drain time was faster and only one wrench needed.
The issue for me is the sidecar in the way. Because I like the car in close it is a bit of a circus act to stand on my head with a light and mirror. Even thought about putting a removable panel in the sidecar body so I could get a straight on view.

I never thought much about them....until I got a sidecar rig. Will be looking for the one that comes inside of the radiator

Me too. Little copper washer got flat and would not seal up no more so I took it off and threw it very far. It had aggravated me, kind of like the chrome valve covers I could not stop from leaking. I think the valve covers got sent to Canada IIRC.

I've decided i need the dip stick on Digbie. To hard to check the oil with the sidecar. I will be engineering one this winter, that, i hope, will not leak. I have it in my mind, just have to build it
