Motorcycle Heaven - The Mother of All Cycle Salvage Yards

#1

Post by desertrefugee »

Had some time this morning and thought I'd pay a visit to Bob's Cycle in South Phoenix. It had been a couple of years since I'd been there. It's always a treat, whether you're looking for ATV, Cruiser, Bobber, Stock or Harley parts. "If it ain't there, it don't exist."

It's a pretty overwhelming place. Take my '78 customizing project. Could I have done everything using parts available at Bob's? Yes. But it takes time, vision, patience and, maybe, more ingenuity than I would be able to muster. So, I'm going the off-the-shelf route. Still, there might be a treasure yet to be found that I could use. (Not today).

One funny thing - folks had commented on the crash bars on my '78. Shoot, at least three of the oldwings in this yard had decent ones still in place. Nothing rare or unusual about them, that's for sure.

See here if interested: http://ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=51879

But, if anyone is ever in the Phoenix area and has a couple of hours to kill, this is a good place to do it. Oldwings and new wings (and absolutely EVERYTHING else). It's all here:

Its a shame they are just piled up on each other. But a field trip there would be a great day in deed

Someone needs to get in there and start salvaging good parts that are getting hard to find - like gas tanks - etc etc.

You should've snagged me a set of crash bars while you were there! lolol (In my experience, crash bars are neither rare, nor overly expensive. The trick is to find a set that hasn't been torn to shreds because the donor bike has been laid down. Otherwise, why sell them?)

Still, that looks amazing. You'd be hard pressed to find something like that in Michigan. Too much road salt every winter. Not kind on old metal. :IDTS:

Hm.... I've been known to do the Muskegon vacation a couple times, now... sounds like an EXCELLENT reason to do it again!

Salvage yard for me is just down the road about 2 miles. All inside storage. No computers but if you need it he knows if he has it. Yellow legal pads are used heavily. Even David Silvers deals with this yard. ;)

The only large cycle salvage in SW Missouri is West 60 Cycle near Neosho, MO. More than 35,000 bikes. Just a few miles East of OK and North of Arkansas. Always found what I was looking for, even when the parts were not to be found on the www.

Reminds me of the parking lot area immediately outside the terminals at the airport in Sao Paulo. Hundreds of motorcycles. Almost looks like a swarm or breeding frenzy.

I have been through neosho many times. Did not no about this yard you speak of. Please give an address and general direction from the south.

West60Cycle is on highway 60. Type the name into search box and up it will come.
