Battery ? for customizing
I read Hotts right up on Spark yesterday and was real interested in his positioning of his battery, now he is using a Gell battery (no leaks) but I came accross this on the English e bay site, it looks verey interesting. Any comments?

They are a good battery, pricey but good. Check out 'Skyrich Batteries' on a Google Search. They have a whole range of them for motorcycle applications, starting at just over $80 US. I think the one on eBay is one of theirs.

AH great so they are a viable alternative to the Gel type battery, we had them as deep cycle batteries on our boat but they didn't off a great starter current. Glad to know that at least the old wing can move into the 21 century with a bit of up to date tech.

Any idea on lifespan? Even among the different AGM's there is a wide variation in life. I had a Big Crank that crapped out after 3 seasons and still have a Yuasa that is still going strong and entering it's 6th season.

It is always possible I got the lemon in the batch. I bought it in May of 11 and it is dead now.
The yuasa I have in the 75 has a 2008 date of service on it. It does seem to be getting a bit "shallow" now but the 75 starts up real easy so it is still going.
The cost between them is very comparable.
Some of these new designs are very limited. Life expectancy of 1,000 cycles may not be very much. I am not sure what exactly they define as a "cycle". For many of us a 1,000 start cycles is just a single season or 2.

yeas I would have thought so too, on a boat a deep cycle or traction battery was generality rated at about 2-3000 deep cycles, near total empty and often needed specialized recharging systems to ensure a long life. Our charger on the boat was American design and was apparently used by the American Coast Guard for their recharging need, they also made the same unit but different materials for the RV market. our charger was a 180 Amp hour with equitation and all sorts and upto 4 bank of batteries I think in the day it cost us about $3000.00 worth every penny. but for starting two 280Amp 12 volt lead acid for tuning that 5 cylinder diesel over. that was a great charger, we could shunt power to the starter batteries if needed. but off subject I am think of going Lion.

Remember our goldwings are waaaaaay over engineered in the charging and battery area.
I put in a regular lead-acid battery out of a 1989 GPZ1100, It was about 1/2 the size 1/2 the weight
of a stock GL1100.it works just fine.

I put an 8 cell Ballistic which they said was good for bikes to 1000 ccs. I cooked it when I knocked the sense wire off installing the rear fender. Obviously, I didn't notice it. The regulator had no signal so it pull full juice to the battery. It was oozing black gook everywhere. I made no provisions for a larger battery on my build so I bought another, but was told that it wouldn't be warranted on a gl1000, that I needed a 16 cell, $300 battery. I put it in anyways and it works fine but doesn't want to crank very long. Lithium ion batteries are not supposed to be cranked very low, below 10 volts I think. If you wait five minutes it will come back and crank more. I ran a relay from ignition switch to battery to regulator so it would read actual battery voltage rather than through switches. I may have something wrong, because mine starts and charges around 12.7 for a while and then up to 12.9. Let it sit a while and it holds 13.2 v. After sitting all winter with no charge it was 13.2 volts. It is tiny. I paid $134 from an Ebay supplier.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.
