water pump kit
I noticed on ebay there are water pump seal and bearing kits for sale, has anyone tried to rebuild one or is it just better to buy a new pump?

Re: water pump kit
I rebuilt three of them yesterday. Not that hard, and its really a pretty simple design. I guess you have to weigh the cost of the kit against the cost of the kit, and your time

Re: water pump kit
Yep, rebuilt one using that kit. If you are careful, they work good as Cyborg said. You have to be careful with the impeller...it is a fragile little bugger!

Re: water pump kit
Fragile for sure. I dropped one of my pumps, and it broke. So I now have four good pumps, and a small box of pump extra parts

Re: water pump kit
Yep! When I did mine, I had a foam pad directly below the work space...just in hopes if something fell, it would hit that a couple inches away vs the concrete floor. Didn't trust doing it on the bench, so sat on the floor.

Re: water pump kit
I just replaced a water pump last week. Just buy a new pump and the associated gaskets and seals IMHO.

Re: water pump kit
The water seems to have stopped leaking since I got it running, the oil not so much. I'm holding off on the pump until I correct the missfire that has defied all my attempts to diagnose. My mechanic buddy thinks it's a sticky valve.

I don't know the history of your bike, but I would think carb issues are far more likely.
Do you have a topic for the misfire issue?

Re: water pump kit
I didn't start a separate topic yet. it's probably time to do that, I wanted to try everything I know how to do before asking. Timing belts are on the way, I didn't want to run it after I discovered what could very well be original belts.
Thanks.

Re: water pump kit
A lot of time pump leaks will resolve themselves once summer arrives and the bikes get used frequently again. Both of mine leak a bit in the winter but are just fine all summer and have been that way for years. Same with the crossover tubes. When it is cold a bit of seepage there is not a cause for alarm to me anyway.
