You guys all know that I've got one of them thar Nekkid Goldwings. A '78 (one of the slow ones). Love the thing and have put danged near 4000 miles on it since October. (Not quite a "daily rider", but close).
First, I tailored and assembled it to ride. No plans or expectations beyond that. It presents well and always draws very favorable comments. The old naked 'wings have a mechanical beauty that really only needs to be clean to stand apart. They get noticed.
While the skills and accomplishments of many folks on this board are far beyond my abilities, the natural appeal of the old Goldwings has allowed me to let friends lead me down the garden path...
Some of those "friends" have put me up to entering it in a show here this Sunday during Arizona Bike Week. Cafe class. If nothing else, it'll get attention just because "heavy" cafe bikes are unusual (if not just plain dumb).
Anyway, during my extensive detailing sessions I happened to have it close to my recently-acquired Valkyrie. I noticed what I thought to be a nice Kodak moment. Kinda interesting to see the evolution up close and personal. Just need an 1800 in the shot.
Hmmm....

I'm sure it won't come as a huge surprise that I didn't take home the trophy in the cafe class with a GL. Competition in that class was absolutely fierce and some fabulous machines were on display.
Nonetheless, the bike drew lots of favorable comments. Although common here on NGW, most folks (even those in the motorcycling world) have never seen a "cafe" Goldwing. In fact, many don't remember Naked Goldwings! Lots of surprised looks. It was a great day - if a little hot. Temperature topped out in the mid 90sF !!

Yep, the snow birds are comming home now. In my neighborhood a couple have
left AZ. Mid 90's in the shade having a cool beverage. Looking at bikes sounds really good.
