Re: My GL1100 Build: Lightwing
With all due respect to you, your bike, your offspring & predecessors, what in tarnation is "roadkill style"? I do recall a sight gag in "The Mask" w/ Jim Carrey where the protagonist emulates roadkill, but I am simply confounded by the "roadkill style." Be a good wrench, sir, & illuminate.
(P.S. Is it Ontario, Canada or Ontario, California?)

If there is one thing I have learned throughout this process it is this: Check your respirator for spiders before you put it on.

Re: My GL1100 Build: Lightwing
I interpreted roadkill to mean a little ratty but functional.
Now im curious if he meant something different.

Roadkill is a web show. It's made by motortrend, search youtube. (It's car based, but you'll get the idea).

The bit I looked at showed them purposely leaving a pool of transmission fluid in an intersection .... not funny if you're a bike rider ......

OK, I watched the episode where the guys drove the slammed jeep into the desert. We'll just wait & see what "roadkill" style is. It must be open to interpretation, yes?

Re: My GL1100 Build: Lightwing
Little update, the cold weather (-5 to -10c) has totally been sapping my urge to spend hours in an unheated garage.
That said, I fixed my puking cross over tubes, only to introduce a vacuum leak.
Fire it up and it runs real nice, just way too high. I'll pull the carbs off again, see if I can track down my leak.
I've been doing minor scattershot things, since I can really only scratch out a couple hours a week to do thing, I'd rather complete one random thing then start a bigger project and not complete it.
As far as weight is concerned: From The original pic, I've ditched the following:
Back rest and rear carrier :Weight unknown.
Switched out the rear shocks for non-air assist: 1.6lbs.
Crash bars: 8lbs
Misc chrome 22.3lbs.
Misc Hardware: Air assist tubing and brackets, turn signal cancel, bobbed front and rear fender, 10lbs
After market fairing is gone: 21.8lbs
So from the reported standard weight I'm down about 40lbs which would make the bike about 555lbs.
As far as big weight savings left: I'm looking at a shorty style exhaust, I'd love to see 10lbs a side but that may not be possible. Maybe 10 lbs total is more realistic.
After that, drop the heat shield, keep the brackets. Ditch the bulky signals front and back, get something smaller, maybe a couple of lbs?
Shave/shorten the seat, couple of lbs?
Instrument cluster is in rough shape, switch to something smaller, 1lb.
The only other thing I've been toying with is upgrading the front brake master cylinder and going with a single caliper set up. 5lbs
That should bring the bike down to about 530lbs vs say a 700lb Aspencade.

I understand that. Its also a racing (motorcycle) saying. But I'm thinking a GL1100 is NOT really a race bike

Yeah, It's just a saying I had on my mind.
But it is an interesting exercise. Always interested in
how folks go about their projects.
