Hello everyone! New to bikes

#1

Post by berniealonge »

Hi everyone, looking forward to learning here! Just got my first bike ever, and it's a '83 Goldwing. Now I just want to take off everything that makes it look like a touring bike. I have to admit just looking for step by steps for removing the front and the storage boxes has already not been easy.

Welcome to the addiction and congrats for picking up one of the best years, the 83.

The cast wheels look great, the overdrive 5th gear is nice on the highway and the linked brakes are a bonus (to some).

Get your 5 posts in asap, enjoy Shoptalk and of course, post pictures!

You might also want to update your profile, adding your location. You might even encounter a local member willing to swing by to assist.

Thanks! I don't want to sound too uneducated about this, but I have simple starter questions like, is it safe to ride if you take the trunk and saddlebags off? Is there a FAQ around including that kind of thing?

Welcome from Wisconsin! Yes, it's safe for you to ride after removing the bags and fairing, as long as you do it properly. For tips, you could look through the many threads in the forums.

Welcome to the club. It's not that hard to do what you plan to do. I did it and I knew nothing about bikes. Even less about GoldWings. Take it easy pulling things apart. Things should go well. Any history on the bike? Last time it ran? Last time new timming belts installed? The stator in good order? Is Stator hardwired or still have the plug? Do you see any leaks? If so, from where? Good luck and feel free to ask any questions.

Welcome to the 'Wingdom.

It can be a challenge to sift through all the info here ..... if you can't find what you're looking for .... just ask.

The only dumb question is the one you didn't ask ....

So for various reasons this project never got off the ground. Is the for-sale section here ok? I can't post to it yet, and I'm at the point were I have to move on.
Thanks

I believe you need to have 5 or 10 posts before you can start a thread in the for sale forum...

Sorry to hear you have to move on, but at least you gave it a try. I almost threw in the towel myself when I realized how bad my project was and how much it was going to cost. I now have a fairly shiny diamond that I can ride and I even retained my sanity. It was close, my commitment to the project almost led to my "commitment".
Best of luck to you friend.
