It looks reasonable and for under $200 for an all aluminum radiator seems fair. In the auto world the aluminum radiators are aluminum core and plastic tanks. This looks a lot better.

What does the aluminum one do that the stock one doesn't?

Maybe, but the stock ones are brass. I guess if you had replace one, rather then rebuild it. aluminum would be cheaper. But brass is tougher, and the 40+ year old ones I've seen are still pretty good, or repairable. They probably dissipate heat better then brass, and if heat is your issue, it could help.

has anyone had an original recored? I have 2 and neither are anything I would trust..
if getting one recored is going to cost be the same or a bit more that is the route I will go.

I had the radiator on my CX500-based police trike recored over the winter. Not cheap - around $400 but that includes time spent by the radiator shop before they declared the original core too far gone to be repairable.
