I'll never own a Gold Wing, so I said....
Well I've always been that guy who hates on baggers, especially the infamous Gold Wing. But time changes our opinions as we get older, and I have acquired a 1986 Gl1200 Aspencade. My brother in law offered it to me because he hasn't ridden it in years. Over the week before I picked it up I searched the Internet for ideas and info on them. I'm very surprised at how awesome the gl1200 looks as a cafe. So I will be lurking around the site seeing what info I can absorb and hopefully I'll be turning this old man bike into something rad....

This is, in my opinion, the best looking 1200 cafe job I've seen. Clean, minimalist. It is possible that I am biased and like black and the Darkwing tail, but dang this is a good looking scooter.

I got my fifth... er, sixth GW in size 1200, full dress, about a year ago. love it as much as my '78s/'79s.
from what I'm told nakedizing an Aspy can be daunting if one is not comfortable with pretty serious electrical fabrication/re-engineering, but obviously it is possible.
pls keep us updated. looking FWD to seeing whatcha got in mind.

I would suggest watching for GL1000 or naked GL1100/1200 parts. The shelter in particular is needed to hide all of the electrics. I've seen them done with regular tanks up there, but it just doesn't seem right. Too much has to be carved out to accommodate the double backbone.

I'm no stranger to deleting a lot of excess from my bikes, lol. Its almost a shame, this bike has most of the original accessories still intact, even the Aspencade duffle bag in the trunk, and the complete tool kit.
