I am pondering the feasibility of inserting the latest 1800 Unicam engine in a 1200 Standard. There are very specific reasons for wanting to do this and I’m not looking for opinions on why it makes no sense apart from solid technical reasons.

So, is it possible? Well, everything is possible of course, it’s just how much effort it takes. I know a GL1500 engine has been used in a (modified) 1200 chassis, but has anyone looked into doing this with the 1800? Does anyone have any comparison dimensional data for the 1500 and 1800 engines. I know the latest 1800 is slightly shorter than the earlier ones, but how does that compare to the 1500? What about drive shaft offset from the bike centreline?

Very much early days and only just starting to think about such a project, but would appreciate any technical input from others.
