I've got a '78 GL. I replaced the stator 16,500 kms. ago. (Rick's Motorsport Electrics #21-102)
On my 1st ride this season I encountered some charging problems. I checked the stator, fingers crossed believe me, at the yellow wires. No grounds on all three, and exactly 0.4 ohms wire to wire on all three.
All of that is good I think, but does anyone know the spec. resistance per leg on this stator? Also, do you think these 0.4 ohm readings are good? And can I now move on to plan "B" to hopefully solve the riddle?

What is plan "B"?
Thanks Cliff. I'd appreciate your feedback on the ohmages.
If I find that the stator's good, then I'll have a load test done to the battery, and check my rectifier/regulator and on and on and on....My Yuasa is just over 3 1/2 years old and 25,000 kms. (not much) I don't think their batteries cut it now as well as in the past. But that might just be my bad luck. I think I'll try a MotoBatt next time.
Thanks again....... ....Dave

Check the stator with a DVM in AC volts position. Should have about 55 to 75 VAC with engine running at 2k rpm. That measurement is between all 3 pairs of yellow wires. If you name them A B and C you should have 75 VAC between A and B, then B and C then A and C.
side note. If you can take your stator wires loose you probably still have that white connector plug. Check it carefully for any signs of corrosion or brown color indicating high resistance. Most of us just cut that connector out and solder the wires directly.

Thank you for that. I don't do a lot of this work myself. Apartment living and a storage shed that's not really set up for service work. Luckily I have a close friend with a shop and a lot of knowledge.
I know that plug, and it's potential for failure, was removed and the wires spliced together some time ago.
Once I get it running, I'll do like you say and check voltage. I'm pretty sure the stator is good, but a voltage check will of course confirm it.
Thanks again........Dave

Thanks
That's a beautiful thing Cliff. Thank you....... ......Dave
PS.....Just shifted to plan "B" this morning, and had my battery checked out at NAPA. It's done!! So now I'm looking for a new battery. There's a lot to choose from. Some get good reviews from users, and some get bad reviews. Often for the same battery. Personally I think it's a bit of a crap shoot. I've used Yuasa for years with varying degrees of satisfaction. This time I think I'm going to go for something more middle of the road, and see how it works out.
I hope I don't get stranded out in the "middle of the road."

Yeah, getting stranded sucks.
Especially in a foreign country.
Do me a favor.
Whatever battery you end up with, please give it a full and correct initial charge before you demand it power up your mota scoota.
