Light scoring in cylinder wall

#1

Post by DustyDingus »

Was looking real close at cylinder 3 and noticed some light scoring in the cylinder wall.
A few of them you can feel a little with a fingernail.
I did some searching on this forum and found a few other posts with similar scoring, one said he'd split the cases and took everything apart, to find nothing. Put it back together and had thus far put 30-40k on the engine.
Since doing a full blown rebuild is out of the budget for this project I've decided to put it back together and see where I'm at with a compression test.
But I thought I'd post it here anyway so I can update on it later.

Anyone else seen scoring like this and ended up being OK?
Worst case scenario, I get a few season use out of it before a full rebuild or a new engine is needed?

Found this when I did head gaskets last year. Easily catches a fingernail. I ignored it. Compression’s around 150 in every hole. Slap it back together and forget you ever saw it.

best to pretend you never saw it. Opening the case is worst than buying an engine. That can wait.

A piece of crud got in there, probably when a spark plug was changed. I'd ignore it. The cure would be waaaaay worse than the disease.

Your good. This one runs fine after just cleaning the walls with single-edge razor blades.

The plan was to ignore it anyway, but thank you for the reinforcement :)
The heads are back on. Re-installing cams and rockers tonight.
