Had a camping trip planned tonight. (Out “there” now). Valk carbs are off. Packed the Vmax. It broke 30 miles into the trip. Only viable choice becides canceling was the 78 Wing.

It is working. More to come.

Back in the day that is how my Parents started out with the 78. They did 3 Coast to Coast trips camping. Adventurous Souls!

What broke on the V? Nice thing about MPS is if one breaks, you just take another!

Back home. Great trip. Ran Highway 260 over across 89A for the second time in a week! Last week was with the Vmax going in the other direction.

Vmax was pouring gas out of one of the right carburetors when I got off the freeway near my friends house to rendezvous for the trip. (Float??) Couldn’t get it to free up, so I tried limping to his house with the gas pouring. It died. He scooped me up with his trailer and we raced back down to my house… 30 miles away… Swapped everything over to the GL, check fluids and air, Trailered it back to his house and went on our way.

And may I take this opportunity to say that my 1000 is not set up for camping or traveling significant distances. I need to do something about the seat. This thing is seriously for short jaunts. And I’ve been so proud of the finish on this thing that I have not gotten a scratch on it in the five years it’s been built. Probably put four or five on it over the weekend…

I 100% agree with you on the GL1000 seat. I'm not sure what you're running, but the stock seat is only good for about an hour before I start to hate life. (But it does look really good, and I have other bikes that do the long-distance thing much better)

And then, I find the GL1000 seat just fine for at least 120 miles (what I did today). I can't stand the K&Q seats for even a mile. Don't need my junk shoved into the shelter like that. I have found that the original seats when worn out can get uncomfortable. This can be corrected by replacing the foam.
