Well, this is the place to document.i just got the 80. Last year of the standards. I have tons of parts for anyone wanting to go interstate route. This bike is candy muse red.it looks burgundy.anyhow i want to keep it as original as possible. I know crash bars were optional.i will keep those. I have tons to do.why is it every old goldwing is missing the battery sidecover? I have tried to post pictures unsuccessfully. I now own 5 goldwings.this is the only one i am keeping.

1984 was the last year for a Standard. ;)

the left side cover is missing because they often are not quite reattached right when checking the battery.... Don't ask how I know

I am going to lowes and get some safety wire and put on both covers.they are about $50 on evay. I said last because i thought 81 they came with fairings and bags.thats interstate for me. Oh well. I love it.i owned 4 1500s, and now i have 5 4 cylinders.the 86 sei i have no interest in but it was a package deal.

Yes, you could get them dressed in 81. But there was also still a Standard. The last Standard you could get was the 84 1200.

A cheap securing arrangement to connect safety wire is to use 1/16 inch ABS sheet with a wire staple punched through. Here's a pic of the pieces. Use ABS cement to attach to the cover:
