Frame off restored 78.

#1

Post by Icebrew4me »

I had this bike sitting for over 10 years in my garage. During the covid lockdown, I worked 10-12 hrs a day restoring it to its former glory. A You-Tube video link attached shows it in various steps from start to finish product. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!!

Looks great! You running a 1 or 2 barrel instead of the factory carbs in that video?

1, but I have since restored and put the originals back on. Ran good at low speeds, and full throttle but flat in between. Runs great with the originals.

Nice Job! but I am prejudiced towards 1978 black Gl1000's. They may not be the fastest but they are the best looking. How do you like the exhaust sound?

Well, I must say farewell as my 78 is no longer naked! I wanted a bagger so I did a full restore on a complete Vetter package! The bike is awesome for long trips or short trips to the store where I can haul a LOT!

Please do share a report on the exhaust note/experience. I think I'm seeing the Delkevic setup, which is one I've been thinking about.

It would seem that you squirreled away a near-mint Vetter touring package. The bike looks like it stepped right through time - unscathed.
Avatar is a summer '21 photo of the Blue Phoenix, our 1983 GL1100I rescue gone naked.

In the Stable and Ridable
1992 ST1100 - my longer haul tourer
1987 VFR700 - son's latest, in blue/silver
1983 GL1100I - son's naked Blue Phoenix
1982 GL1100I - naked bagger Cabernet (surf bike)
1979 GL1000 - Ginger Lynn, but not that Ginger Lynn (Wing and a Prayer)
1978 CB550K - son's cafe
1983 CB550SC - one owner, 5k, great paint & seat/good chrome (will soon sell)
1986 VFR700 - fun throwback in RWB

Active and Semi-active Project(s)
1976 GL1000 - sulphur yellow, original paint (it's now official: winter '24-5 project)
FrankenWing - 1980 GL1100 motor in 1982 or 1983 frame (still deciding, so maybe semi-active).

Here is a link to a you tube video of the exhaust sound. I love them!!
I actually spent over $1000 on the Vetter bags and the restoration of the entire package which is like brand new!
